Question With 2 Sides To It
by Guest- 11 replies

Hi to all nursery/pre school practitioners or those of you who work in a school. I have a question (well 2 questions really) relating to supply cover for staff absence. Q.1) What is your experience of using agencies to provide supply cover? Q.2) What is your experience of working for an agency to provide supply cover? I would welcome as many answers as possible- the good, bad and ugly. I realise that not everyone will have experienced this before but am trying to gain a good picture from both sides of the table if you know what I mean - advantages and disadvantages. Thanks

Hi I am new to Manchester LEA this year but not sure if this is a new policy for them or all nursery providers. I understand that Manchester are to stop January intakes in nursery from september. Does anyone know the legalities behind this? Do we admit children who have just turned 3 in September or wait until they are 3 years and 3 months and admit them gradually over the year? I'm soryy if the above doesn't make any sense - my brain is mashed! Hoping someone may be able to help me? Zoe

School Transition/missed Pre-school

A quick answer needed please! The local school is running it's transition sessions during a normal pre-school session over a period of 5 weeks. I will be losing most of my children from that session and a member of staff who is going up with them to help with transition. Do I still charge children for the sessions they will be missing like you would if they were on holiday as I am still having to cover staff costs? What do you do? Thanks, Gwen

Hi all, I have a very big dilema , I am an EYFS coordinator currently teaching 26 children (13 per 15 hr session) in a school nursery, all has been fine till now, and i love it. However our Reception teacher (fairly experienced) has been under performing and to truthful is not suited to early years at all, to alleivate the problem seniour management (not i) have decided to put me in rec and her in nursery (out of sight? mind) telling me that it is not good practice to have a coordinator in the nursery As i have too much experience and that i should be the bigger class ! i am naturally devastated as i love my job. I can understand they want the best for the childr…

Hi All We have just received extra funding for a child with additional needs (taken 18 months!), I am looking to implement 1:1 support for the child. Although we are a private Pre-School we are based within school grounds and one of the TA's whose contract is finishing would be ideal as she has plenty of experience and qualifications. So my question is this will obviously be a temporary contract, the child in question is entitled to move onto school in September but both mum and school want to make sure statement is in place first so the ta could be with us until end of summer term or until Christmas and then move with child into reception. Don't know where to start with…

Tomorrow they discover the classes at school and find out that their children will be split into two classes and we might have suggested they go with what we really think is best for the children and not the parents! Last year is the first time I decided about our children for the school, and it is the first time that nobody got upset about it! Can I pull it off again this year? I hope so because we are going to the meeting this year and I might get shouted at if someone is not happy!!! I'm not sure we can stretch to bodyguards.....
