hi there all, i am hoping some of you can advise me on an issue i have, recently we had an inspection and for quite some time now ive been feeling that the care commission choose who to grade higher based on relationships they may have with the managers or service providers rather than what the nursery is doing for the children,i think this time i have been proved correct. the 2 care commission officers were in recently and during our inspection 1 of the officers accused a staff memeber of doing something they said was wrong, now they advised me about it a week later after they had referred it to social work,so i immediatly was concerned and suspended the …

I have been hunting for premises to move into with the idea of starting up as a day nursery for birth to school age rather than a term time pack away pre-school that we are now. I am getting very excited now that I am getting closer to finding somewhere but before I speak to the owner of the building I want to have a bit more idea of what running a day nuresry entails! Has anyone ever made this change before? I've had some experience working in a baby room when I did my EYPS but actually owning and running a day nursery with linger hours than I'm used to must be very different! Has anyone got any advice? thanks x

Just wondered? We haven't had a pay rise in 2 years and to be honest we can't afford to have one this year BUT there has to come a point where you really have to, especially when you realise minimum wage is catching up! sigh it's all getting too much

We will be reveiwing our fees within the next few weeks ready for September. We have always had to do a HUGE amount of fundraising which is getting increasingly more difficult, due to parents either not being interested or because they actually can't afford to keep paying out all the time, but it is also frustrating for the fundraisers when they aren't supported, so to help we feel perhaps having more realistic fees would be the answer. BUT what about those parents who genuinely will struggle, does anyone offer any flexible ways of payment? We currently charge parents per 1/2 term, but would like to add we aren't in an area of deprivation, but some still have pro…

What Are Your Thoughts?

Hi We have recently had an Ofsted inspection, and our inspector has recommended that the children come in and sit on the mat and we discuss all the activities that are out that day, at the moment they self register and choose what they want to do, The inspector said that she feels we need to discuss the activites on offer to help them choose what to do, she linked this in to highscope! her comment was "How do the children know what is out?" I just wondered what others do, at the moment it workes well as we do a circle time at the end but she has now got me thinking!!!!

 We have received a letter from the bank saying we are being moved to a Business account as from 18th May as we have gone over the £50,000 turnover threshold. Has anyone else experienced the same? Can anyone recommend a bank or account? Anxious not to pay interest or charges which will eat into our finances... We are a Committee run pre-school open 22.5 hours a week ...

Our paediatric first aid trainer told us that bleach was now forbidden in nursery schools. I find this *very* difficult to believe. was she right?

Taking On A New Deputy....

Hi All, my deputy (inherited) has just given notice. Now, whilst this is possibly no bad thing and I see this as a chance to redefine to role and start afresh, I am wondering how other managers implement the position. To set the scene we are registered for 25, open as Preschool 9-3 for children aged 2-4. I work 5 days with 2 1/2 in the office and the rest on the floor. Currently the supervisor also works 5 days with 1 in the office, I also have an admin assistant 3 days a week who takes care of all the finances, does a bit of printing, mans the phone etc. I consider myself very lucky to have this staff structure, still have an enormous workload but I do know…
