Hi there I have just had confirmation that my deputy manager will not be returning following her maternity leave. So, I would like to appoint the temporary deputy manager into an official deputy manager! Does anybody know whether I need to declare this to Ofsted and whether we need to complete any paperwork like the EY2?? Any advice is appreciated

I would like some advice on what a commitee does and the responsibilites of the chair. I realise they are involved in funding, maintainence and the running of the setting. Do we have to be in communication with the commitee on informaton re the children. Perhaps child protetion issues or behaviouial issues?

In Cambridgeshire we are facing fairly major cuts to the level of funding for next year. Can I ask if anyone else is in this position and how do you expect it to affect you? There have also been some wonderful services for SEN children lost and I am a bit heart-broken at how this is affecting past (and no doubt, future) children who have been in our care.

What would you do in these circumstances? ( I have been asked for advice!) Child fell and hit his face at his nursery yesterday, on a wooden climbing frame. Accident report states that he has 'graze to face'. That's it, no report of how it happened, time etc or the circumstances of what happened. Then his face swelled badly, but that has not been mentioned on the report, because staff 'didn't notice it for an hour or so', and when they did, they 'assumed he was eating something', even though it was over an hour past lunch time. Today, over 24 hours later, it is still badly swollen, though no bruises have appeared.No-one telephoned his parents to say he'd had a nast…

Does anyone know of companies (or individuals) who provide French/German/Spanish teachers who visit nurseries and introduce language games to the children? I'm in East Sussex, and one of my Foundation Degree students would like to set this up in her nursery.

Hi everyone, Need to have a little moan and ask you all what you would do in this situation!! We are full time day care nursery. We have a little boy who attends everyday. Last night mum came and collected him at 6pm. I live 45 mins from the nursery. As soon as I got home I got a telephone call from my deputy saying she had received a phonecall from the mum saying that she had forgotten her sons blanket and he won't sleep without it. My deputy who lives 5 mins from the nursery went back and got the blanket for mum (- obviously not by herself!!). I have spoken to all the staff this morning and told them that they must make sure the blanket is put back into his bag…

Hi, I am leader of a small pre-school and an early years teacher with lots of senior management experience. We have a member of staff who is a graduate unqualified in childcare who is currently doing EYPS. There is another experienced teacher on the staff and a very experienced NNEB. We have really seen the unqualified member of staff learn and develop over the last year and she has had a total turn around in some of her understanding. She laughs with us about some of the things she used to do/say when she started. But now I feel we have created Frankensteins monster!! She has not finished her course yet but is beginning to question my judgement and deci…

Hello All We are a pack away setting in a community centre and are fortunately very busy at the moment, we run sessions from 0905 - 1205 and 1220 - 1450 daily. Staff arrive at 0830 and are paid until 1500 but rarely leave at that time. We are all exhausted as we hardly get any break inbetween sessions because parents picking up children from the morning session are arriving late or are wanting to talk to staff members for long periods of time. We have tried charging parents if they are late! I do not want parents to have to make appointments to speak with us but I am at a loss as to what to do. The staff can not go on working like this, morale is at an all …
