I am in the 3rd year of a job as a Nursery teacher in a very difficult school in South East London. I came to the job as an NQT and my parallel teacher was a hopeless long term supply who has since left. She was replaced by an equally hopeless long term supply, who has now left and I finally have a permenent teacher with me who is very good, but new and still finding her feet. However throughout all of this the other adults in the setting are a mixture of unfriendly, bitchy, lazy, messy, and depressed Nursery Nurses and teaching Assistants. Team work has slightly improved since I started, only natural given how closely we have to work together and the period of time. But…

Hi everyone, I am new to this and this is my very first post so sorry if it is in the wrong area. Just wondered if anyone could help me out with a little query. I have just taken over the management of a committee run Pre-School. This is my first role as manager and I want to get the staff on training courses so need to look at bank staff to cover shifts. We currently run at 4 staff all qualified to Level 3 and one working towards EYPS. Am I ok to advertise for unqualified bank staff or should I be looking for a minimum of a level 2? Sure I will have lots more questions over the next few weeks so thanks for your help.

As the supervisor of a committee run preschool I find that I am increasingly feeling very isolated and 'abandoned' even...we barely see our chair now as shes working, the rest of the committee drop off and pick up children through the week but apart from that and essential errands they may run for us (at our request eg supplies for cleaning..) they are just like any other parents at the group...see them no more no less apart from meetings. We dont see our advisor unless we call her in (and I do that only as a last resort) ...and so I'm just feeling we staff are just left to get on with things and that is how it is expected to continue...but I feel I want / need more. Im…

Dear all, I hope you can help me with this. I try to be brief. I have been working at a setting for the last few months. There have been lots of issues and Ofsted got involved. One of the action points was that manager didn't have a deputy. Manager didn't really talk in great detail about Ofsted (our staff meeting was spent cutting out Christmas shapes instead?!) until 2 weeks after the visit when she quickly pulled me aside as I was about to go home. She then finally shared the O. action points with me and I saw that she had put me name down as her deputy. When I questioned her on this, she reluctantly explained that Ofsted said it has to be me as no-one else is…

by Guest- 17 replies

Hi all, My leader asked me a question this morning and said that she was sure she had read it somewhere - so I offered to ask all you knowledgeable lot! Does it state anywhere that there is a plan to get pre-schools onto school sites by 2015? We are in the process of discussing moving onto the local school site - has anyone done this recently and are there any grants available to help with the initial costs?

How sucessful have any of you been at getting unpaid fee's paid? Last year a family left us owing £217, I wrote but received nothing. They'd moved out of the area and while the move was taking place kept saying 'I'll bring a cheque in next week'. We now have another family who kept saying the same thing before Christmas and now havent been back, they owe £119 from last term and to date £59.50 from this term. i'M MUCH MORE ON THE BALL NOW, WITH A LETTER PREPARED FOR ALL FAMILES REMINDING THEM THAT AFTER 2 WEEKS WITH NO PAYMENT i WILL GIVE THEIR CHILDS PLACE TO ANOTHER (Its in our policy). Is it worthwhile going through the small claims court or would I be …

Playgroup Merger With School
by Guest- 6 replies

Have any playgroups out there merged with their school? Our playgroup is run from our own porta-kabin on school premises but we have been seriously considering merging with the school. Will this mean it is compulsary to have wages and pay structure put through the school salaries? Any thoughts on pros/cons to this merger would be much appreciated.

If Leader And Deputy Are Out ...
by Guest- 7 replies

Do we need a stand in deputy to be stand in leader? I ask because we have a couple of situations coming up shortly where both are out and it is pretty much unavoidable. One situation is that the leader is on training and our deputy has to take her daughter to the hospital, she has a chronic illness so I would not quibble on the timing of it. The other situation is an important conference that both leader and deputy have asked to attend. We will have a level 3 qualified person on site, but does she need to be named stand in deputy for the day!?

Grants

Our playgroup is currently run in a portakabin which is nearing the end of its life. A new portakabin or replacement building will be needed soon. Is anyone able to tell me the best companies to apply for grants? We obviously do not have near enough funds to pay for a replacement building and therefore the only options we have are serious fundraising and possible grants. Your advice is much appreciated.
