After several lengthy and honestly quite annoying phone calls from Citation I caved and had a meeting with one of their sales guys. He did a good job of the terrifying me that I wasn't compliant and had gaps in my risk assessment. Does anyone use these guys, or similar? Is it worth the money? TIA

Hello all I am just trying to find out if other Nursery classes (part of a school setting) are experiencing a drop in numbers this year and if so are there any reasons that this might be the case? We are a 52 part time nursery class and although numbers at Induction were relatively healthy (86) we have had a significant drop out rate - the most that I have know in the 11 years I have worked in the Nursery. We are offering 13 30 hour places (about 16 applied) but as we work in family groups of a ration 1:13 we thought this was the best logistically. There are various reasons (or not at all  ) for the drop outs but for some it is because we do not offer fl…

As the title suggests I'm looking at how other settings manage staff using tapestry in session. I have had to speak to my staff on numerous occasions because I've walked into the room and see them buried in their iPads. It's tricky because I know they need to complete their obs but they are the eyes and ears in the room first and foremost. We never leave a member of staff alone in a room with children but at times I've seen 3 out of 4 staff on their iPads at once! Would be interested to hear if this is an issue for any other settings. Thanks

Just looked at paperwork from council about parents claiming for FEEE. Each claim form is now 5 pages long and has to be completed each term. It covers 2 year funding, 15 hours, 30 hours, EYPP and DAF eligibility all on one form and one page is all about data protection. My printing costs are really going to rise, not to mention the time needed to guide each parent through the form. Can see where the increase (?) in funding is going to go! Also, how many other people have to copy and keep a copy of children's birth certificates? In the past, I just looked at them and ticked a box to say I had checked them.

Hello Everyone! I have just taken over as a manger in a committee run pack away preschool and would be grateful for any help! My experience is as a manager in a children's home so i'm new to running an educational setting and don't really know where to start. There doesn't seem to be any paperwork in place from the previous manager apart from a safeguarding file which have been done in recent months by our chair person and an employee file. Does anyone have any recommendations about what else is needed? Where shall I start? I like to be very organised and things to have a place to live so at the minute its riving me crazy not knowing where anything is, not bei…

Can anyone let me know what / how they deal with other users in the building. We use one room in a church based building and we sometimes have groups in at the same time using the hall that is in the same building. Also when church members are wanting to access the building or workmen they have hired what are your procedures for this to ensure safeguarding requirements are met? It seems with ours lately we are last to know about anything and is really effecting the children being able to go outdoors with work being done and people coming to the building without us even being told. Would love some suggestions as I am attending a church meeting soon so would like a plan in …

we are not offering the 30 hours, we are sticking to the 15 hour entitlement. One of my parents is entitled to claim 30 hours and is intending to share this between us and a childminder. A few months ago she asked me about this and I said that we would ask that she claims the 15 hour entitlement with us and the extra with the childminder. She has now contacted me and said that she is entitled to the 30 and wants to use the 30. I just wanted to check that I am in the right saying this?

Hello All We need to get one of our new members of staff trained to Level 2 and another Level 3. The PLA have advised that the course they offer is full. Any other suggestions? Have any of your staff carried out online study. If so is there anyone you can recommend? I told the Manager I would have a look online, but just getting confused. She is going to ring the LA also to see what is available. Thanks in advance C

Which are the questions that must be asked in a reference form to meet legal requirements? I want to keep it short to ensure a prompt reply from the former employer and trust my and my colleague's judgement about a person's capability from an interview and a trial day.
