Hi Everybody Could some body please give me some advice on ratio please. I am Deputy in a day nursery for my sins a job I really enjoy untill now. The setting now has a new manager who fab and bring lots of experiance of working in a LEA day care setting. We have got along really well untill this week when she has wanted to introduce a ratio decimal point system. As far as my understanding goes we follow the ratio set by OFSTED inaccordance with the EYFS. I have asked her to write it down so I can look at it and try to understand what she is talking about. I really dont have the foggiest. The staff are all confused and this is causing tension and upset because the g…

do you have a minimum number of sessions a child is allowed to take? A couple of years ago we made it our policy that children had to have a minimum of 2 sessions per week, as we found those that only came once really struggled to settle and make friends. Since we made the policy, it has never been an issue until this year this year we are having people querying it and it's basically because until their child is eligble for funding they only want 1 session just to get their foot in the door. As a parent I can understand that but as a setting this would be a nightmare to manage (I think) especially as to actually make ends meet we would have to have so many children …

Hello Just wondering If other pre-schools have anything in the policy regarding children leaving without giving any notice. We had a parent leave a msg on the answer phone through the summer holidays stateing her child will not be returning to the pre-school, then another parent who didnt either bother to inform us, we had to call them!!! Both of which were fee payers but now funded. Any tips or guidance would be great! Thanks in advance Becca

Dongle

Hi, we don't have a landline (we're in a church hall) but staff would like access to the internet, and rightly so (some of committee a bit resistant almost as though they would just bung children on the internet and leave them there!!) Anyway, does anyone use a dongle to do this, what kind of package did you go for, how well does it work, any other advice about getting our setting online? I've looked in the BT thing where they give you a laptop but that seems to hook you into a contract deal which I would like to avoid. Thanks in advance for your tips.
