HELP! My staff have signed acontract that says they need to give me 2 weeks worked notice. This has worked well but to be honest no one has really left for ages so I havent has to really think about it too much. The salaries are paid monthly with even payment which include the legal amount of holiday entitlement within each payment. Now, one of my staff has offered her resignation in writing hoping that she is accepted for a september start job ( very likely to get it ). Her resignation letter was dated 1st July and we break up on the 16th July. My question is how long do I need to pay her for? Is it until the end of August? Please someone give me you …

Hi, We may be in need of a new member of staff for September and I just wondered what you've found to be the most effective way of finding the right person for your setting? For example, where do you advertise and how quickly do you fill vacancies? cheers for any comments suebear

we run a 3 hour session, and have stuck to the same 'timetable' for years -we are thinking of re organising it and would love to see how other settings work around their 3 hours, we would need to include a time for snack. do other settings have a specific time allocated for free play, small group activites, physical play etc ?

I have a little boy starting in October who has a spica cast because of a dislocated hip since birth. He's only been in it 3 weeks, but will be wearing it for 6 to 9 months. It isn't a seating cast, he is flat. I've chatted to Mum about it - about his special nappy changing, and the fact that he is either "horizontal or propped up" and just wondered if any of you lovely people has had a child in a similar cast and what options there were for preschool activities.

Holiday Pay Entitlement

Ok, this is a confusing matter at the best of times, but I seem to have a dilemma. Many of the staff have increased their hours and changed shifts dramatically this year and we are trying to work out their holiday pay. Do we; work out the average weekly hours worked and then do the calculation or Use the out of date contracted hours or work out the actual annual hours worked? Once we've sorted that bit. I presume that we then have to look at all of the past staff and calculate their holiday entitlement until their last working day? Would you also earn holiday pay whilst on sick pay? Thank…

Hi, I wonder if any of you use a form to give information on children's learning when they are in two settings. I know some of the nurseries have these as I have been sent one completed. Like many of you I have children in Pre-school that also split their funding with a nursery on the days their parent's work. Be good to know if anyone has been asked to produce these by Ofsted?

I am absolutely gutted - we have been working on re-vamping our outdoor play area for 18months - we were turned down once and had finally got everything right. We submitted our final application about 3 weeks ago - thought everything was fine, and have found out today that the government have withdrawn funding as of yesterday. I feel robbed! Its not the months of work that realy hurts but the fact that the kids have been looking forward to it as well and the financial mess that the world is in is not down to the kids but it is those who are suffering.

I may be stressing too early but how are everyones numbers looking for September!? At the moment we are full with a wating list but we have 21 children leaving us in July!! At the moment September numbers are looking a bit low (average 10 children a session!), thinking I may need to speak to staff and suggest a 4 day week until numbers pick up. Does anyone else ask staff to drop a day when numbers are low, and is it allowed? Kris
