Ok every year I do a DVD for the parents of children leaving with all photos taken in the setting over the year. I get their permission then we showed it at leavers assembly before giving a copy to each parent. Feedback is past really lovely. Parents crying etc Today parent complained about a picture of their son in a dress how can we show grandparents. He was not the only boy in a dress. Explained that all children included etc. what do you think should i delete all photos of boys in dresses or playing with dolls when i do it again next year. Buttercup

Just working out the new pay scales and have got a little stuck; Firstly, we are trying to work out a reasonable wage for Manager Deputy Level 3 Also, we are wondering whether we should be paying extra to the person who does the Senco role (or just for the extra hours they do, when they do them)? All help most appreciated as I know it is a difficult subject. Spiral.

Fire Doors

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem we have at the moment and have a solution to the problem. We have just moved premises to a shared building where there is a fire door with a bar to open it. One child who has SEN has an obsession to open the door and doesnt understand the safety issue. He can open it and as it opens out on to a car park is very much a safety risk. Obviously we cannot block the door as its a means of escape in emergency. Any ideas? (apart from a staff member at the door all session!) thanks Annabell

Hi Have had a parent call today to say child wont be in as unwell and going to docotrs, just called back to say she has been told he has measles!! He has had the MMR, so obviously a letter will go out to all parents tomorrow, and I am sure I need to tell Ofsted, do I notify the Local Authority or do the doctors do this? Have also been told there is a fee to pay when notifying!! Kris

hi - wondered if anyone could help? we have a member of staff on long term sick after a car accident - she is receiving physio and now going to see a chiropracter - she has been off since march and we are struggling to cover her sessions of three days - we do not know when she will be back -she is due to send in another sick note this week. our problem is that we dont know whether she will ever be fit enough to come back to work due to her injuries - do we have to keep waiting ( for sorry for her but it is really hard for everyone else ) until she is fit to return to work or can we give her a review date thinking about whether then we let her go? does that make sense / a…

Hi everyone, Well I have been going through such a strange transition, I have been the leader of my setting since 2007, taken them from a satisfactory to a good with outstanding features, built up a brilliant team, have great parents, children and committee. We have now settled into our new building, have 0.5 of a teacher (who is lovely) and am working in partnership with the school and children's centre. I have been supernumerary for two weeks and absolutely hate it!!! So much so that I have today applied for a key person position, ten minutes from my house, I have to travel 20 miles each day to my present setting. Next year is an important year for me as I …

Hi I hold my hands up and say I am really not up to trawling the net or writing my own employment contract tonight. However, I need a new one preferably by tomorrow so thought I would 'beg' on here. I am hoping to use it for all staff including apprentices and other student placements. I know there have been changes to maternity pay/leave and just wondered if some wonderful, kind person had an employment contract that they wouldn't mind sharing? I would be forever grateful and do feel somewhat lazy asking for help but it's just been one of those days today!! Thanks in advance

Hi everyone I posted a little while ago on here about our September numbers and that due to a setting closing we were full!! The setting that was closing have asked all parents in for a meeting on Friday as they have found someone to take over! Great news for them but now I'm of a quandry what to do! I'm assuming that some of my new children may very well swap back to their old setting, but this close to the end of term and with headcount looming do I ring all the parents and ask what they are doing (there's about 25 of them!), do I hope the parents will consider me and call me of they are changing back!! I've also just interviewed and made a job offer to take into a…
