Top Up Fees
by Guest- 26 replies

I was just wondering now I have the 15 hours all sorted out for September if anyone is able to charge 'top up fees' to parents. The Conservatives were going to allow this at one time so that private settings could stay sustainable.

Parents Evenings!
by Guest- 4 replies

We currently hold two parents evenings a year, but struggle to fit these in, get the reports done on 40 children all for one night and also to get some parents to attend ( the ones that moan that they dont have enough time to see their childs key person) anyway.... We sent out parents questionaires last month and the only issue that seemed to be mentioned by a couple of the parents was the communication issue. This got me thinking and i came up with this idea - To hold one end of year parents evening for all parents, with a summative report given out and time to sit formally with the key person and go through the childrens folders etc etc......then throughout the…

Anyone else heard if they have been shortlisted for an award? We, as in the nursery, have been shortlisted for the Team Development Award and we, as in the chain, have been shortlisted for the Nursery Chain Award! How excited are we!!!

Hi I'm on an Enco course tomorrow and just realised attached to the back of the pack is a quiz to be answered prior to the course!! Can anyone tell me where I can find the reccommendation that there is a named person for Race Equality!! I think I'm just having what I call a senior moment today!! Had to put a post on here because I didn't know how to change my email address and the answer was right under my nose!! Just got new glasses so can't blame them!!

Bad Day, Feeling Blue

don't wish to rant, but.... I'm exhausted and a bit down in the dumps! Ive had a committee fall out (again) and I'm the bad guy (again). Seems my role is to do all and sundry and theirs is to document (and misinterpret) what I should do and tell me it should be done! I wish I could go and play with the children more and support the staff team. Of the six members, only one wants to talk to me - and that's the one I'm having the biggest issues with! Anyone else feel that committee led settings are failing because of their committee? Spiral

Moving Premises
by Guest- 6 replies

Can anyone offer any useful advice? We are fairly confident that we will be moving to a new site at the local primary school at some point next year. I spoke to Ofsted about this and they said that it will take 25 weeks to sort out the re-registration and 7 weeks into this they need to inspect the premises. Can you tell me if it really takes this long in practice and how finished the premises needs to be before it is inspected? Also do you have to redo all the paperwork like CRBs and health check as if it is a new business? Thanks in advance. Jane

The Non-reference
by Guest jenpercy- 24 replies

We took on a new member of staff to help us in the holidays. We gave her a trial and loved her and I didn't actively chase up her references because the end of holidays came round. Next holidays OFSTED came and blasted me for not having references. I wrote to her other place of work and they wrote back confirming that she worked there and stating that it was against their policy to give references. I showed this to OFSTED next time they came and they weren't impressed. I have an action to get a prpoer reference - which I can from Superdrug. What use is that. I am somewhat at a loss as to how a setting can refuse a reference to another setting. Previously I ha…

was wondering how other schools are arranging the 3 hour nursery entitlement into the school day. It is being proposed that we are to be starting in January 8.45 - 11.45 then I get 30 minutes lunch, afternoon session runs from 12.15 - 3.15. I will get a floating 30 minute lunch to take as and when I see fit and necessary breaks also. Any examples of how other schools are operating would be useful. I would not like the nusery staff conditions and hours of working to be different from the rest of the school staff. Thanks Cloudy

Hi everyone i am foundation leader and work in the maintained nursery. just had a 'mini ofsted' ready for big OFSTED next year. was observed and foundation ok but inspector questioned how we did CI as on my plans there were no objectives. Explained how we did plan do review and were highscope which they were pleased about but constantly went on about having more structure in CI? trying to understand this and have questioned friends in private settings and maintained but they could not help or understand what was meant. they mentioned pictures/photos to show the children how to do things which I can see working in perhaps creative/sand/water/numeracy but am I hten not lim…

Am just filling in an interminable Business plan for grant purposes ie one with lots of meaningless questions that don't actually advance my planning one bit. I jut typed in that we ar registered with DPA - and then i thought OK what is it for. My conclusion that it is a tax on businesses with a computer.
