Hi everyone, I'm new to your fantastic forum and would love a little advice. Its coming up to the summer holidays and our numbers drop dramatically so we only have 3 members of staff in. Myself, my deputy and a member of staff. One of my summer staff wants to go on holidays and the deputy manager said we can do with just two. I think it would be better to have 3 in case of emergencies, lunch cover, and the fact we have a boy who can have epileptic fits (he's only had 1 in a year but still quite worrying) and needs two staff with him when it happens. Am I correct in my thinking? My deputy has a lot of weight with the owner of the nursery and she can sometimes m…

Afternoon Guys, Although cheaper to produce myself I know....I am looking for some SEN 'action' cards to buy - with simple actions like 'change nappy', 'snack time', 'lunch' etc for a child with English as an additional language and some learning difficulties. Many thanks

Just wondering where you get your staff contracts from? Ours were rewritten a few years ago but we need to do some work on them and interested to see where yours come from. I have looked on the PLA site and they do not seem to have them.

During the hot weather, many of my staff wear shorts. Most are fine, but one or two are skin tight, six inches above the knee and one shows a huge tattoo right down one leg. I don't want to be an old fogey, but it looks unprofessional and I want to try to set a standard that we can all follow. Any suggestions? What do you all do in this situation? Thank you!

I am thinking of putting our school leavers' Tapestry Learning Journals onto USB sticks this year instead of printing them. When we have children who have been with us since they were babies, their Learning Journeys are huge! Has anyone else done this? If so, where did you get your USB sticks from and how much did they cost? Did you get 'branded' ones with the name of your setting? Thank you.

Hello All Without going into details. I had a call with Ofsted today. They asked how I (chair) as registered person would assess the suitability of our staff (namely the manager). We have a staff policy that states all staff should have relevant DBS checks, evidence of qualifications, references etc. We also follow a safer recruitment policy/procedure. However how would this work with staff who are long serving members(15+years). We do hold their DBS numbers, copies of qualifications, very old references etc Would regular supervisions and appriasals assess suitability as well as the annual self suitability questionnaire. They also attend training. We have no over…

Hello We are currently recruiting for a Deputy Manager and hope to have one start soon but given they have to give notice it may be September. Currently the Manager is usually in all week but if they have a meeting or go on an outing one of our Level 3's step in as Named Deputy. My questions are: If the Manager was to take a longer period of leave (annual/sick for example). Could we request a member of staff step in for the time being? None of the Level 3s wanted to apply for the role..as they didn't want the responsibility. If they didn't want to cover for any longer leave of absence what would we need to do? Note one of our Level 3's is a S…

Hi all, My first time posting a topic on this forum, so here goes. My question is about nurseries policy on how many instances of diarrhea will a child have before you send them home? and once you do, how long do you require they be off for? Our policy has been 3 instances and 24 hours, however we feel that the 24 hours is not enough as when the bug goes around it's hard to get rid of, children are returning to nursery still sick or the parents are being dishonest about the instances at home. We will be changing the policy to 48 hours but I anticipate that parents will not be happy about this. I would like to refer the parents to some kind of official stat…
