One of my staff members has severe asthma, and has to attend hospital once a fortnight for a steroid injection which is vital for her. She always fills in her annual health form to say she's fit for work, but as time goes on and the years go by, I'm getting more and more anxious for her health, with all the germs that go with the job! Her asthma is so severe that she's spent time in intensive care on life support. Is there any way, as an employer, that I can bypass her and go to her doctor for advice as to whether she really IS fit for work, I know she loves her job, but I don't want it to compromise her fragile health. Yes, I know that ultimately it has to be h…

Does anyone use communication bks. We're a pre-school morning only with 2-5 aged children. I've worked in nurseries where they use communication sheets for the 2s but not the older ones. What do similar settings do

I am in the very awkward position of having information about a person applying for a senior post in a preschool that makes me question her suitabilty for the post ( she witheld information about the way another member of staff treated a child when she worked there previously). I think I know what to do, but would welcome your input on this please.

Need some advise please. I have a member of staff who does'nt seem to get along with a parent who is undertaking her level 3 in our setting where her child attends. To keep the story short the staff member does not want the mother to be part of the staff and included. What I want to know, is the mother a mother or does she count as part of the staff being in placement. Our student placement policies and procedures is based on the PLA but really doesnt say anything about Parents doing placement in their own child's setting. I've spoken to the member of staff about her concerns and that they need to work together for the sake of the setting, but she still keeps going on. Wh…

Shouting one very loud "ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" sorry just have to let off steam - had one of those days all to do with Pre School related stuff, and it is my day off!!!! I have not been into work and had planned a lovely day - studying my OU stuff this morning and pottering this afternoon. So why do so many people think it's ok to call me at home with issues concerning children, parents and pre School general business? and I am talking about professionals and external agencies here, not colleagues (Ofsted being one of them) I haven't given my home number out to any of the 'external agencies' concerned as far as I know, so why do they feel …

Hi All, A big ask, i woundered if anyone had a copy of a risk assessement they have done on Free Flow (esp if your Preschool is up stairs, and the children go down on their own) - For those who have just gone "ahhhhhhhhhh"ours do not go down the stairs on their own and never will, i just need an idea of how to write, so i have proof for when Mrs O comes out, that we have looked at ways of doing it. I know of some nurseries that have their Preschool upstairs, who do frew flow to the garden, and use walkie talkies or a doorbell sytem to let staff in the garden know children are coming. Anyways hope someone can help me!! Thanks Miss Red
