Our sessions run from 9 to 12 and we take children from 2 until they leave for school. Whether they are in nappies or not so my question to you guys is do you change the children that are nappies only if if it is needed or do you just change all of them regardless of whether they need dong or not. My thoughts are that it is best practice to change all of them however is both a waiste of money (for parents Imean) and time e.g. if a child is comfortable what is the point in disturbing them from their activities in which valuable learning is taking place.

I've just read the safer recruitment guidance and understand it is best practice to do health checks on anyone with regular contact with children. Does anyone know how best to go about this. I was thinking of doing something similar to that of Ofsted when a Manager is being checked. However this can be costly. Does anyone have a copy of the health check they give to their employees.

Separation Anxiety
by Guest- 15 replies

hi all -yet again I need to pick your brains please??!! I have one parent who is suffering terribly from separation anxiety. The child (youngest of 3) has been with us for around 12 months now, and is generally happy when in the nursery. She is very able, socialises well generally no issues. Mum however is very anxious about leaving her and the child has picked up on the signals and plays on them. She has gone through months of separating easily, but now its to the point when mum would happily sit all session for no apparent reason. Mum feels very bad about this and is continually apologising, and often in tears - its a real issue for her. She says she's really happy …

Hello all, We have (I think), rather bloated staff files and I'm looking to trim them down a bit. The trouble is, I keep thinking "We don't need this bit, or do we?" Can any of you let me know what you keep in the files so that I can get an idea of what I can throw away? Cheers, duggy.

Supply/ Cover Agencies

Hello there. I live in West London and I am looking for a job (!). I would like to sign up with some cover agencies in the meantime, but don't really know where to start. I know of Staffbank, but no others in my area. I would really appreciate some names of agencies, and any experience of them - the Staffbank workers we had in my previous setting were very mixed. Thank you

Some Advice Please

I currently feeling a little dejected and dont quite no what to do with these feelings, so thought I would write it down here and see what others think. Our pre school will be moving into a new building in June and we will remain a pvi setting, but sharing a space with a CC. The CC have moved into the building already and we are signing our lease with County shortly. I went into the building last week to conduct a risk assessment for Ofsted, before I got underway with the assessment the CC manager and lead centre officer said they had bought us a gift...as you can imagine myself and the deputy were very pleased. Basically they have totally decorated the small quie…

Hi As mentioned on other threads I am trying to take over the preschool from the committee - with their full backing. As are many people we are struggling with the PLSA - we have raised considerable funds to buy our own building and they want the lot!! We are now looking at cancelling our membership with the PLSA and having our own constitution and I am wondering if anyone else has their own and would they be prepared to share it with me? Many thanks Hopeytg

Split Of State/pvi
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi all, wasn't sure where to put this so have plumped for here, I'm sure someone will move it if it's in the wrong place! Anyway, I am trying to find out what the split is between provision offered by the state sector (i.e. state school nurseries) and that offered by the PVI sector. Is one larger than the other, what are the percentages, does anyone know? I know where I live Bristol have loads of state nursery provision, whereas Bath and NE Somerset is mostly PVI. Also, I wonder if this will change as the single formula funding thing comes in, and also as we start to get more children's centres - any thoughts!? And last bit of the question, kind of related, …

Climbing Frame Safety
by Guest- 10 replies

Hi all, We've got an old GALT wooden climbing frame, a sturdy old thing which gets used quite regularly. It looks fine to me although it could do with a sand down and a coat of new varnish. However ... I have the 'feeling' that there will be a regulation somewhere that we need to have large pieces of equipment checked each year for safety. So, the question is a. is this 'feeling' right b. how often do I need it to be checked and c. does anyone know who I would use to get that done? Thanks in advance for your help. It feels great to be back on here! Suzie.
