i was just wondering how everyone has managed to change to 15 hours? We are still working on 12 and a half and i cannot work out how to change!! I run sessional care 2 sessions a day, 5 days a week. 2 out of my 5 staff would be unable to do more hours as they have school age children themselves (also 2 are studying at the mo so probably not able to change hours). We can't afford more staff! We have a half hour lunch break (HA HA!) and the setting is not big enough to have more than the 18 we are registered for so change over couldn't be back to back. I have been asking our early years advisor this question for the last 18 months and am now getting deperate ....how muc…

Our County are funding for 2 year olds with CAF. Is this standard across the Country or are some Counties offering funding for 2 year olds either across the board or in deprived areas? It's just a query, I just wondered if we were all being treated the same (laughs to self)

Reducing Hours/cutting Costs

I know some HR but not everything and although I can ring our solicitors I want to know now so I can relax over the weekend! Our girls have contracts (which we are looking to redo to update slightly) and one girl is contracted to 30 hours however since the previous manager left 5 months ago she has been working more. I want to try and reduce her back to 30 but is this legal, I heard that if someone works certain hours for a period of time they become their new contracted hours? Anyone have any clue?!

Ok so I have a bizarre question. Is it me or do paper hand towels cost a fortune. Does anyone have any alternative solutions as obviously we are not allowed to the let the children share a towel or perhaps where I can get these from at a reasonable price.

Hi I work in a Pre-School and was just wondering what info people share with Health Visitors! Had a rather upset parent approach me this morning (first day back for us!!), over the break I received a call from our Health Visitor who was looking for a space for a child. Whilst on the phone she made an appointment to come in and visit and we talked about children within the setting. This may ramble but bare with me on this!! I spoke to her about a family (parents have split up) where the younger sibling is with us and the older at the school where we are based, there have been issues where I did have to involve the SCB (Iput a post on here a while ago about it), I enqu…

Ok so I need your views guys! What would I do without this site. Ok so I'm busy projecting my costings for the next few months and decide to email my accountant to ask for a quote as to how much she expects to charge me for her services over the next few months. Well I think I nearly had a heart attack this morning when I opend her email. This is what she quoted me: I estimate that you should budget for a further £400 to complete the accounts to March 2010, and £150 to do your tax return = £550, then from April 2010 my charge will be £125 per month, to include payroll. This is on top of an invoice that I recieved last week for nearly 3 hundred pounds. We are…

Hi, I know ratios have been discussed a lot on here but I’m a little bit confused with something. I am about to start work in a playgroup/preschool for children aged 2 – 4 years in a village hall. Now the direct.gov website states that the child: staff ratio for a pre school is Preschool playgroups - provide places for between 10 and 20 children - there must be one adult for every eight children and at least half of the adults must be qualified leaders or assistants And this is what our preschool currently operates at, but the EYFS states that For children aged three and over in any registered early years provision between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm, where …
