Safe Recruitment 1 2

Hi can anyone help - we seriously need to review our recruitment procedures - and policy (that currently doesn't exist) in view of safeguarding issues. Do any of you fab people have anything you could share? We are a small voluntary run setting with 5 staff including myself - I am the only one to even have had an interview (as a new manager)- the others have been known to setting previously and even asked to do the job, so we have no set procedure etc. Thankfully staff turnover is low, but I am aware this is a gap for us - especially as Mrs O is due any day now! Any advice appreciated Carmen

Health And Safety - Paperclips
by Guest- 23 replies

Yesterday we used homemade clip boards - paper clipped onto a bit of cardboard with a paper clip. We had a very small number of children with a very high number of staff. They were on the mark making table which was supervised as the scissors were also out. However, the paperclips could present a serious risk to health. What do other people think about the seriousness of the risk/ lack of judgement?

Just wondering really....am working on my NVQ and reflective practice/CPD unit, and got to thinking. I have been in the role since September, I know the committee are more than happy with me, but I have written a personal development plan for my NVQ, which I will share with the co-chairs, but not being of the 'workforce' I don't think I will really get much from sharing it with them personally if that makes sense. Now I used to be a manager in retail, and obviously had my Area Manager to help in my development, and a HR department to turn to with major staffing issues. If I wanted to, would I be within my rights to share my personal development plan with my Early …

Hi all. This summer I will (hopefully!) have completed the Foundation Degree in EY education, differing views tell me that is level 4 or level 5! Whichever, it will make me that highest qualified practitioner in the setting (I am the leader) I feel I need/should broach the idea of a new pay scale, as no-one is above level 3 at present, but am mindful of the fact that we are a PVI preschool and not rolling in cash. It seems a bit greedy, as if I am just asking for a pay rise for myself! Any ideas how I could bring the subject up? We are committee run by the way....

Also, I'm ineterested in finding out if I'm in line with local authority rates of pay. How do I get hold of these? Thanks

Nursery Manager

Hi, I was just wondering if you can manage a day nursery with EYPS but no other child care qualifications? I think you can train for EYPS without any other childcare qualifications as long as you have a degree? Is this true? and if it is, is this qualification enough for you to be able to manage a nursery. I am currently studying the fd in early years so not an issue for me, just wondering really. I think I have a case of assignment aviodance Rapunzel
