Hello all Re Lunches - 30 hours I am just working my way through the Operational Guidance for Early Years Entitlement. On Page 31 it states 'Providers can charge for meals and snacks as part of their delivery of the free entitlement as long as parents are not required to pay as a condition of taking a child's free entitlement place.' I am a little confused about this. We are a maintained school Nursery class. At present we have no provision to offer the option of packed lunches (I won't go into that point). Therefore we employ lunchtime supervisors to look after the children over the lunch period and parents either pay for the lunch or are eligible for FSM…

Hello All There is probably no definitive answer to this so would just like your opinions. We are a committee pre-school and we had a couple of staff leave earlier this year, highlighting some issues with the manager. The manager has recently had her appraisal and we did raise some of the issues that we felt were relevant (most were just minor quibbles) Present at the appraisal was myself chair and another committee member. The manager has asked that we keep the meeting notes confidential but should they be shared with the rest of the committee as her employer?....they will obviously be placed on her file for future reference. There was nothing rea…

Can I ask if you have 1:1 funding do you have to employ someone new to be the 'named' 1:1 ? I have tried where possible to increase existing staff hours in the past, they already know what they're doing, I'm not sure a child becoming dependent on only 1 staff member is ever a good thing and it saves on the added expenses of taking on someone new) but I did employ a 1:1 this time, they lasted a term and a half ( too much like hard work) left giving no notice, by the time I'd run a recruitment process, completed checks etc it didn't seem to make sense to go there again for little more than a term as staff back from mat leave Sept, with no staff able to increase due to a cou…

Hi Does anyone know the name of the first aid provider that does 6 hours online and one day practical training. Staff have done the training numerous times before and I thought this might be more cost effective. Many Thanks

I have just gone into a state of panic - I bought the pre-school I managed last year to save it from closing and set up a Ltd Company - the Parish Hall who I lease land off to locate the building are insisting that I am a CIC not a Ltd company. I have sent all the forms off to change over and just had a panic that it will mean re-registering again with Ofsted - not sure I can face the 'Suitability Interview' again. Does anyone know?

Ok, deputy on longish term sick leave, not sure when she will be back. So it leaves me without appropriate cover for one morning every other week. I have now managed to source cover for this morning. She is a HLTA with 3 years experience in EYFS. I am guessing that this will still not be suitable to count in the qualified ratio, what do you think. Working on that morning will be me (manager) level 3, another level 3 and then one unqualified staff member who is currently in a 1-1 support role with additional needs child. So if her qualifications are not relevant we will be out of the qualified ratio. We are really in a hole and this could be the difference between…

Just wondering if anyone was a member of the Federation of Small Businesses? - I am need of legal advice re landlord/lease - can't really afford a solicitor as the landlord is already asking me to pay their costs of nearly £2000 and it has been suggested I join the FSB but that is £142 - happy to pay if they can help.
