hiya, I have always made a note of the disclosure number, registered body, date etc on each member of staff's record but given the original document back to them as I was told we weren't allowed to keep it. I am worried this may have changed - does anyone know please? thanks, Anju

Hi everyone Has anyone increased provision from sessions to full day? if so did you issue a questionnaire /letter to parents asking what they would like? Am trying to put together a letter to inform parents of proposed changes and ask for their views. Any help/pro forma would be really appreciated. Am wondering how to go about this with as little disruption to parents and children's current sessions as possible - would love to pick some brains on here - just worried that we will lose some of our families. Thanks

Registered For 20 Children A Session

Hi We are currently registered for 20 children a session. Why/how this figure was originally arrived at I don't know - before my time. However, we operate a sessional pre-school for children aged 2 to 5 yrs and have a massive church hall with sundry side rooms too. At a recent meeting of local providers I realised other settings with less space than us are actually registered for more children. I have therefore got the necessary forms from Ofsted to expand/ our registered number. Before I do it, however, I wanted to ask you lovely lot if you have done this and if so are there any possible pitfalls I need to be aware of.... eg Ofsted needing to inspect again (y…

Odd Days Off

Has anyone got any advice? We are a 60 place nursery school with playgroup attached. This week has been fairly typical in that on Monday, only 1 member of staff turned up for playgroup, other 3 phoned in sick and same again on Tuesday. Wednesday, that staff member went off sick but one of the others came back and same again today- so basically 1 outof 4 staff in playgroup. Out of 9 staff in Nursery, 1 came in on Monday and has been off since, another 1 left at 2:00 p.m. yesterday and has phoned in sick today. This is driving me mad and the headteacher seems not be dealing with it- she just says, she knows why they are off, it's always "confidential" and she can't …

Nanny Jobs

Hi, I would like some advice on Nanny Jobs. Recently a few members of my staff have got new jobs as nannies. This has caused quite a bit of upset due to the families being families of the nurseries. I can understand that the families are just looking out for themselves as with 2/3 children they are saving money by employing these young staff. My concerns are that these families have not asked for any references and both girls involved have disciplinary on their files with one being quite a serious leading to a final written warning. I am aware that my ex staff are getting registered with Ofstead but does anyone know how this works? Will Ofsted contact us for a reference…

Hi, A member of our small staff team has just started her EYPS course (short pathway). She has so many things she wants to talk to me about and as I am the Leader she will obviously need to negotiate with me any projects etc. she needs to do in the setting or leading of inputs etc. We don't have any time to talk during opening hours so these converstaions will need to take place out of hours. Does anyone else have any experience of mentoring a staff member through this course and how many hours time you need to put aside for it? Thanks.

We are a sessional committee run playgroup. Do any of you similar settings have staff sick pay? We have three staff working together for 18 children. Today one had such a bad back that she couldn't stand up and the other had a stomach bug at the weekend. We don't offer sick pay, and they didn't want to take unpaid leave. What do you do? They still have bills to pay and it's a bad time of year to lose money. I would really like to introduce sick pay for occasions like today but playgroup cannot write a blank cheque. What is the answer??
