I'm so fed up! My nursery is sited in an old community centre which is falling down around our ears...water leaks, broken plumbing, general grottiness! We do make the most of what we have, but things got so bad that my local authority told me they would fund a new build if we could find the land. This was now easy task, but we have been waiting to hear about an ideal piece of land owned by the district council and sitting empty. After weeks and weeks of red tape and me chasing people, they have said no. To make matters (much) worse, we have now run out of time to put our bid in to the local authority panel and we have lost the offer of funding for a lovely new buildi…

We want to buy in some training for the whole staff, to look at child protection and make sure everyone is up to date. There are LEA courses, but it would be tricky to get all staff on them in the near future, because we can't let more than one person go at once. Has anyone had someone come in and do this for a whole staff group? Are there any companies you would particularly recommend? Or any charities who do this kind of thing at a very low cost? We are voluntary run so money is always tight. Thanks.

Hi I am manager of a small committee run preschool and have just been told that the 3 trustees of the committee are all standing down at the end of Summer Term-they have all cited different reasons for doing so but I am not convinced by these.Anyway the question I have now is if anyone here has had a similar experience and what they did. Myself, staff and parents are determined to stay open but am not sure what steps to take.I have spoken to our PSLA lady who is coming in next week to talk to me about what can be done but am really after some positivity after a bit of a day which has left me overwhelmed and facing a lot of tasks. Our numbers at the moment are low but I thi…

Hi - W e are a pre-school in a multi use community building . We pack away every night and have a workable but not easy realationship with the landlords. We are thinking we need to think more of a move to perhaps our own premises - we know there is no where similar in our location but need to stay in area as we are busy , always full with a huge wait list and need to be the providers in this area as we know it works basically . I wonder what sort of building are you all in as I think Im not thinking outside the box enough as to what is possible . Dizz

Hi - I was wondering whether anyone can shed any light on 2 questions please We are sessional Pre School operating on 2.5 hr sessions at the moment. Looking whether we can increase to 3 hr sessions but have constraints on us due to the fact that the premises is not our own so have to fit in around other users. Q1 - If we were to increase sessions to 3 hrs for example open at 9am - 12.00noon and 12.00noon - 3.00pm - Can a lunch club operate as part of the funded session? In what circumstances could we charge for lunch club ? Q2. Has anyone heard any news about the Single Funding Formular proposals? We are really worried as our LA have proposed a base rate of …

Hi We have received a letter from our local council stating that all supervisors/managers must hold a level 3 Health & safety in the Workplace certificate. I have found on line courses for level 2 but not for level 3. Has anyone done this course on line or is it only available by attending a training course? Essex are offering this in their training brochure but it means I need to take myself away from the setting for 3 days and as we are a new setting I would prefer not to to this at the moment. Thanks for any advice Kris

Hello all we have a 3rd year trainee teacher about to start in our PT maintained nursery. I need some advice on how to organise her planning. Currently we plan as a team each week but I know that I need to support the trainee in having a go at planning herself so she gets the experience. We plan for the whole nursery (all four groups doing the same or similar activities for main teacher led concepts/activities with differentiation by support for each child) I just wondered how other people may have approached having a trainee in their setting? ANy advise/ideas would be greatly appreciated in order to make our trainees experience the best possible.
