I am in the process of renewing my insurance and as we are now able to offer back to back sessions of 2.5 hours am offering 5 hours each day including lunch. I have usually used the PSLA for my insurance and have been a member for years. However Another insurer is now able to offer much more competitive rates for my insurance now that my hours have changed This has also made me think about whether to become a member of the National Day Nurseries Assoc. rather than the PSLA - I really can't justify the cost of belonging to both. If you had to choose which association do you think offers its members the best for the money? (Current rates are £90 PSLA and £…

Committee Run Preschools 1 2

Hi I am about to attend the first committee meeting as preschool leader. The old preschool leader still does one session and will also be attending. She suggested that I have another member of staff for support and so I get the attention if that makes sense! So I have invited another member of staff along. They have had problems with past committe but this one is ment to be nice. Any way I have now been informed "it is not usual for staff other than the playleader to attend meetings due to the nature of things we have to discuss." Surely a committee is open and anyone can attend? I feel it is important to have at least 2 staff members including my self at committee mee…

Eyps And Contract

Hi all I was not sure where best to put this topic! but here it is. I am about to start the short EYPS course. I have been at the setting I work for a term and the chair person is in the process of writing out a contract as the last one was very vague. She is just wandering how other settings write into contracts the EYPS. Also how they manage the funding for the person who is doing the EYPS training ie how they pay that person the funding. Does anyone have a contract that they would be willing to share. We are a small playschool for 2 -4 year olds with a max of 20 children at sessions. We are only open in term times 3 full days and 2 half days. Thank you …

Parent Questionnaire...

Hi Im not sure if this is the correct topic area to put this. Please could someone look over my parent questionnaire and see if there is anything else I should be adding or anything that doesnt sound right? As a bit of background we had our RAG judgement letter and in it they have marked us as red for our communication with parents not being welcoming and friendly which I personally thought was a bit rough but anyway we are asking for parents feedback what do you think? Any help / suggestions much appreciated... Parent_Questionnaire_2010.doc

Anyone Else Closed Again Tomorrow?
by Guest- 27 replies

I'm wondering whether anyone else has taken the decision to close again tomorrow? I've had to do it because all the local schools are closed and therefore all my staff have older children at home with them. Also most parents have older children at local schools so wouldn't want to bring their younger ones in anyway. At least the council is still paying the grant so we're not too badly off. I'm determined to get back open on Monday though, even if I have to do into school and shovel the snow off the playground for them!!

Hi I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their thoughts or policies regarding charrging for sessions for snow days. We are in a private run building with high costs. The pre school is in a tiny road which is like sheet ice as it is not gritted.Should we be charging for sessions or not.If we do not charge we will not be able to pay the wages and other bills. Any thoughts gratefully received. Thank you

Pure 2-year-old Setting

I won't bore you all with the details but following a recent amalgamation of primary schools in our village the Headmaster is now trying to build his ideal school. He potentially wants his maintained nursery to have all the 3 and 4 year olds, and then a PVI setting to cater for the 2 year olds. It is my carefully considered opinion that this is not, and cannot be viable. What is your experience or opinion. Do you know of schools and settings that have made this work, either in the same format or another way that you could tell me about? Please prove me wrong for the sake of all the lovely 2 year olds on my books and my lengthy waiting list

Hi, I don't think I have put this in the right forum but hopefully I will be moved if that is the case-thanks. I was on another site flicking through for planning when a post caught my eye. I have not seen it on foundation stage forum so thought I woulod advise people. It appears that the person concerned is on remand and in court today. He has admitted crimes against children- From the information on the LA websites it appears he has pleaded "guilty" and is being held in remand while awaiting sentence sometime this month. I believe from one of the links that he is in court today The sites are registered to Samuel King (KS1) AND Samuel Kinge (KS2) info is available…
