Leader's Report For Agm
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi, I have to do my first leader's report for the AGM of our committee-run pre-school. Any pointers anyone can give me of what it should include? We have only been open for 2 months. I was thinking of sub-headings like staffing, curriculum, resources, challenges, future plans. All thoughts warmly welcomed!

Hi, I've got an interview as an Assistant Head at a maintained Nursery School linked to a Children's Centre. I have lots of experience in a Reception class, I am a EYFS Leading Teacher and Moderator but not a lot of experience in Nursery. I was wondering if anyone could help me on what they might ask me at my Interview. Thank you in advance.

I am after some advise with regards our lunch club. We have only just started offering lunch club 3 days a week (parent request), however it is proving really popular. At the moment the lunch club can be run with two member of staff, I always stay because as manager/owner I think it is only fair. The rest of the staff alternate which days they do (including my deputy), my question is pay related, should all the staff that work the lunch club be paid the same hourly rate? And if so do I pay my deputy the lower hourly rate or my other staff the higher hourly rate? Or do I introduce a new rate for everyone covering lunch club (I don't pay myself a penny!!). Hope this makes s…

Induction Pay
by Guest- 6 replies

Can I ask what other committee run settings do regarding paying for induction? Is an induction day (going through all paperwork, h&s, initial policies, code of practice, etc, and NOT included in ratios) paid for and counted as the first day of work? Does anyone have a policy regarding withholding the pay for induction until the end of probation or end of contract if short-term or end of the year, OR of deducting induction pay if the staff member leaves within a certain time, and, if so, what wording do you use and is it in the offer letter or contract or both? We have had experience of a staff member doing their induction day and then leaving (! not sure what scare…

Hello, Our leader has had some bad news regarding her son and sadly needs some time off. We just can't afford to pay for this, but can see that she will be without anything if we don't. Somebody mentioned that there may be a way for us to claim through our PLA insuance for sick pay, but has anyone else heard of this? thank you, Spiral.

Hello I was wondering if anyone could let me know how long a CRB check lasts for? How often do you as a setting re do them? Getting conflicting information from some websites, some say every 3 years and some are saying you only need to re do them if you have any concerns about a member of staff! Hope someone can help and I have made some sort of sense!!

Hi Maz Hopefully you will see this! I have had a 30 day trial with instant nursery manager, as previously mentioned they have stopped the trial version and you now have to pay full price!! As you have been using it for a while will you upgrade to the full version when you reach 50 children? And also do you use it for accounts? As a new setting I really don't want to throw away £500 but at the same time as I am included in room ratios etc any admin help is a god send!! I know there are other systmes out there, but I have found this one quite user friendly!! Thanks Kristina

Insurance Costs

Hi all, Can I be nosey please and ask for a rough guide as to what others in pack away village hall settings pay for insurance? I feel that ours is very high, apparently we get it through the PSLA. I should imagine it includes public indemnity and I know there is something in it to cover us the committee in case of our liability, but I can't see why it should be over £380 a year! Presumably that's to cover our resources (not worth much to be honest) but what else? I'm planning to look in more detail at the paperwork but would really welcome a quick straw poll. Many thanks.
