Costs Of The Eyfs
by Guest- 12 replies

Hi all I was wondering whether anyone else has experienced (is experiencing) higher running costs as a result of implementing the EYFS? We have found that the costs involved in increased training, admin, sharing info meetings, and so on... do not reflect what is received in fees and Grant money. In terms of the EYFS what have you all found? Is it financially draining or is it just me?

Quality Setting

I have just started on my Quality Journey with Birmingham City Council. OMG - there is a lot of work involved in this girls. I can certainly see the value of it as it truely will sort the good from the bad. However, I am really concerned about the paperwork side of the assessment that is carried out on each setting and also how you prove everything to your assessor. This is certainly not something you can do without the co-operation of the staff. I also feel from my limited experience that you will have to conform to how the 'establishment' think things should be done compared to you knowing your staff, children and parents. I don't want to sound negat…

Help! I have a member of staff who has frequently been booking appointments in the middle of the working day. She gives me very little notice then claims they are non moveable when I explain that its not a convenient time. The appointments range from physio (new as double jointed), dental, drs etc. typically now other staff are now also following suit.........when i ask them to try rearrange or say its not suitable their attitude is terrible. II even get "my mum's furious as shes had to ring them again...." lol I rang ACAS this morning and asked advice and unless they have a serious health problem, are pregnant or are having surgery etc, then we are under no legal…

hello , i was just wondering if anyone could help me, I have a member of staff who is currently studying towards her level 2 nvq, in the past she has be allowed to do everything a level 3 does, a new member of staff has questioned if she is allowed to change nappies, be left in the room by herself ..etc... the previous manager allowed it. As I am new in my role, not new to the setting I want to make sure everything is running by the book. any feed back would be fantastic as I hate not knowing the answers!!! thanks

Hi Does anyone use the Pre-School learning alliance management software called EY Essential and if so would you recommend it? I have recently opened my own sessional Pre-school and at present I work in the room alongside staff, have nine key children and in my spare time (lol!!) am also doing all the paperwork including invoicing etc for our two year olds. As this is my first year I really don't want to spend fortunes but if it could save me some valuable time it would be great!! Thanks Kristina

A day nursery in our town is closing at half term. Now although this is very sad my first thought was 'what is happening to their building?' as we rent a hall and would love our own premises. I contacted the people that own it and they told me that they rent the building at £8000 a year and that with utility bills and rent it comes to £1600 a month!!!! I couldn't believe it, no wonder they are having to close. I don't know whether I am living in cloud cuckoo land but surely £20,000 a year on rent and bills is rather a lot. Our dreams have been dashed - we currently only pay about £3000 a year! Oh well, will have to keep on dreaming....... sigh

Child With Cancer
by Guest- 13 replies

Hi there, One of our children was diagnosed with cancer over the summer break. Forgive me if I don't go into too many details for confidentiality, just in case anyone on here knows my setting. Anyway, the child's not currently managing to attend much due to the nature of the treatment & the timing of the appointments. We are due a visit from the special nurse who will show us how to manage the line which apparently has a plaster over it. This is a first for the group and one I hope doesn't occur again. Aside from the usual need for careful risk assessment, check with insurers etc I just wondered if anyone had any advice/guidance? I don't even really know what…

I had a phonecall from a Social Worker about a child in Preschool, the upshot of which was that the child's grandparents have applied for a residency order to keep him safe and away from his mother (bad issues, which I won't upset you with). Anyway, they have to apply for this residencey order, which they'll get, no worries, but it will cost them £50! Now, is is just me, or is that outrageous!? what price a child's safety? What if they can't afford £50 - they can't afford preschool fees and we let them have a greatly reduced rate as he's safer with us than at home. What happens to him then? Surely the safety of the child is paramount - what's the £50 for? W…

Ok I know I've read a thread about this topic before but I don't seem to be able to find it ! My Supervisor has just had a phone call from Ofsted to say they are coming to give her a suitable persons interview. She has now gone into a major panic as she is relatively new to her position and has never been in a Supervisors role before. Does anyone have any experience in having an interview and what sort of questions they will ask ? I just want to support her and boost her confidence. She knows what shes doing, its just a confidence thing. I want to be able to turn round and say to her "There you go you do know it ! ". Many thanks Motherclangerx
