Hi all, I have decided to start issuing invoices at the beginning of term to parents. They can still choose to pay weekly or termly, but i am hoping it will help for those parents who 'forget' to pay, or 'do not realise' they still owed money! Does anyone have an invoice template they use? Or know where i can find a good one!? Many Thanks Hannah

I'm looking for (free) help on how to train my staff on safe manual handling/lifting techniques. The only free leaflets I've found I would have to 'doctor' hugely to make relevent - what do you all use in induction??

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me please, my manager and I (deputy) would like to start a more formal way of monioring our rooms within the nursery. We would like to observe to evaluate and monitor the practice of all staff and to see how smoothly the rooms run - we can then plan improvements, highlight concerns and see where things are working well. Does any one else do these sort of observations and if so how often and in what format ??? I'm not sure if this is too 'big brother' but we have some concerns about some members of staff (team leaders organisation and planning mostly) and would like to see practice in those rooms. Hope this makes sense, Su…

Hi everyone i was wondering if you could give me some advice?! I have just taken over as nursery manager and it is not the ideal situation! The previous manager has moved to another setting within the same company, and the deputy has left before i started which means that Myself and the new deputy manager (who is great!), have started at around about the same time, which i can appreciate is hard on the team. However it has been a month now and they are not accepting myself or the deputy, they have been disrespectful and rude and i have been trying to get through to them with a friendly and positive approach, however today i had to speak to each of them individually in t…

Rolling Snack Time

Hi, Just opened for our first day as a new pre-school. Everyone still alive by end of day-hurray! We tried a 'help yourself' snack bar which was a new experience for all of us staff. We are hoping that we do not have to have a member of staff running the snack bar for half an hour and that it would be self-running. Our only real issue is a hygiene one. How do you ensure that children wash their hands before having their snack with this method? We saw children going straight from the playdough table to the snack bar!!! Any top tips? Thanks

Having read some posts this evening and noticed some fo them are rather sad, people struggling with management issues etc, I wanted to offer some hope. I started as leader at my setting a year ago this week, and it has been a really hard year. The staff were 'old school' and very set in their ways. i struggled to encourage and involve them in new ideas and changes. i nearly went through the floor with the amount of paperwork that piled up, and the whole array of policies and procedures that needed up dating or even consrtucting! I was so ready for the holidays and working on limited patience and zero enthusiasm by the end of term! i was thinking career change, a…

Staffing Differences

Hi everyone and hope you all have a good productive Autumn 1. i am in a difficult predicament in that my job sharer (deputy head) is ignoring me most of the time due to an issue we had about children copy writing sentences when they don't even understand what they have written. This happened last April . I love my school and my job and have been to the head (not interested) and may now have to go to the union. I feel so angry and frustrated as it seem that she rules the school. I feel if I leave she has won. Have tried talking to her and went into a vitriol. Has anybody else sufferend this kind of behaviour?

Hi all, I've searched for an up to date thread on this subject but haven't found anything useful. We have an apprentice starting with us this term; she was our student placement last year and was fab; reliable, keen to learn and listened well, the children and parents really took to her and she fitted in very well into our little team. Does anyone have any tips for me? Either from an apprentice or manager point of view? thanks in anticipation! Sam
