We currently have a manager and deputy but are considering two managers so one of us is on site all the time. If so how do you divide the roles

I am a childminder but am looking to expand and open a small nursery. I will be offering care from birth-school age and then before and after school club. I will have the children all in the same room so how will a mixture of ages work with regards to ratios? As a childminder it is clear that I can have a maximum of 6 children under the age of 8, a maximum of 3 children from birth to school age and of those 3 only 1 child can be under the age of 1. I am struggling to find information on a maximum amount of children for nursery staff when the ages are mixed. I know what the individual age group ratios are, so this would be simple if I was having separate rooms, bu…

My deputy supervisor who has worked in the setting for almost 20 years does not have GCSE equivalent English or Maths. She did an NVQ Level 3 in Child Development to enable her to progress to deputy about 10 years ago. Have I understood correctly that the new EYFS (2017) means that she can no longer be counted as a level 3 employee in ratios? Is there any way around this can anyone think? She will probably retire in the next 5-6 years and I know she would not wish to go back to school! Any thoughts? Thank you.

This new government website helps parents find out more about their options regarding child care. We are putting a link to it on our website and also mentioning it in our newsletters. Some of your parents may find it useful https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/

Hi All Just wondered how you go about saving places in your settings? An example of the issue we are encountering is: Baby place reserved in Feb for 3 days per week to start in September for which a £50 deposit is charged that is then reimbursed on first invoice. However parent has contacted to say that they now do not want the place until Jan 2018 meaning that the place has been left open for almost a year. We do charge a four week notice period for any changes to start dates but in short this means we have turned other children away from September for a place that we are now unable to charge for until Jan 18. Curious as to how others overcome this?

My deputy manager has been off long term sick, we are in the process of deciding whether she should In fact leave as she will not be in great health for a very long time. I need to take a bit of time of soon, so was wondering can I promote someone within the workplace temporarily until I have had a chance to advertise the job and interview etc? I understand it is a legal requirement to advertise for a position, but I did think this other staff member might return, but as that is not looking likely and I need time off (short hospital trip) I do need to make sure things are in place before I'm off. Has anyone had to deal with this or had similar? Please help.

Hi, It is sufficient for staff to hold a level 1 in food hygiene ? As the most they will be doing is preparing snacks and do some cooking with the children from time to time (i.e. biscuit making) As someone informed me that staff need to do level 2 in Food Hygiene. Thanks

Afternoon all, I am desperate to get away from our over complicated, messy paper registers which are time consuming for myself sitting every Sunday writing out the next week/terms registers. We also have a high turnover of children from travelling communities so find we are constantly having to make amendments. Would anyone be willing to share their paperless systems/documents with me so that I can trial a few ideas? We have children attending morning, lunches and afternoon sessions. We currently still use a paper based system for recording payments for sessions but again I would like to move to something more efficient if anyone has anything successful they…
