Can you wonderful people give me some advice please. We have one person who is currently with us whilst doing her EYP qualification. She is a volunteer for 1 day, and does supply for 2 days. She had one term Sept/Dec on a fixed term contract. What do you understand her holiday entitlement to be? I am very confused and anxious to get it right! Thanks!

Key Carer - Yes Or No?
by Guest- 17 replies

Hi all I've inherited a difficult situation and would appreciate your opinions as to how to make the best of it. I'm the business manager of a sessional playgroup with four members of staff (inc manager). One of our staff (who I shall call Mary) has another job and has to leave 30mins before the end of the session to get there. Our manager is supernumery and is included in the ratios for those last 30mins. However, both the manager and I are concerned that by leaving early Mary is not fulfilling her role of key carer. She is great with the kids and friendly to the parents but obviously does not take part in the home time routine and it is left to the manage…

We have Swine Flu. I confirmed member of staff and 1 suspected child so far- although it must be noted that I have an awful lot of staff questioning the sick policy and how many days etc...me?? cynical??? come on! anyway- We have done as reccommended and in accordance with our policy- notified parents we have the cases- passed on what information we have been requested to do so by all the LHA, HPA etc both to parents, staff and authorities. On top of this i have reissued the sick child policy- you know the one- the one many of them choose to ignore as it clearly doesn't really mean them-their child's sickness and diarroeh isn't the same as anyone elses- and I have …

Hi following recent events in the nursery we have decided that now would be a really good time to undertake some behaviour managment training for all staff. we want to do this inhouse, primarily because we can not afford to have someone come in and train us. we are going to do it for a full day on a saturday and will look at some team work training too (if we have time) we will definatly look at : : child protections (signs of abuse, what to do etc.,.... a general recap for all staff ) : ways to deal with behaviour in nursery - appropriate and inappropriate : staff behaviour and attitudes. of course we want to get some staff on accrediated training but r…

Hi everyone, just wondered if anyone could help me. I am the leader at our local village playgroup, it is committee run but at the moment it's a joke. We have 7 members on our committee but only 1 person out of them all actually do anything and she is getting fed up. Could anyone please give me a job description of a playgroup leader because our committee apart from 1 seem to think i should do everything including arranging fundraising events, i'm getting sick of it now and am starting to decide whether i want to go back in September. We have our last committee meeting before the holidays next week and would like to tell them all to get lost but i enjoy my job and would …

i have read all the advice from our LEA but what it doesn't say it whether I should inform pther parents that a child has suspected swine flu. we were phone this afternoon after we closed for the week. should I put a notice up on Monday like we do for chickenpox saying look out for symptoms? apparently they aren't testing now so there is unlikely to be a confirmation of the case of the particular child. we have no particularly vulnerable children or staff but some of our parents are pregnant. I have the emergency contact details with me so could send a text to everyone tonight?? thanks, A

Staff And Their Baggage

Hello How do you all cope with the constant trials and tribulations that staff have? I am so worn down this term we are only a small team 7 of us, but since Easter every week one of them has been in tears before we open because of problems outside work. (actually it's mainly only 2 people) I want to be a caring manager, but I am worn down with them all. We have had:- teenage preganancy, husband beat me (withdrawn later), suicide, wandering boyfriend, knocked off bike - twice, infertility, relative seriously ill (going to die - didn't. better next day), niece raped , own illness ..... etc there were lots more. I know these are all serious issues and I …

Transitions From Pre-school Into School
by Guest Biker- 10 replies

Just wondered how others were managing the transition from pre-school into nursery. As an extended school we run pre-school (along with breakfast and after school care) in our own building within school grounds. Our children then feed into the school nursery. However the school nursery has been established for a long time and as a pre-school we have only been on school site for nearly 2 years. It would seem ideal for us to have really strong links but it does not seem to be happening.(not through lack of trying on our part) I won't go into detail but enough to say that we feel that we work hard to provide lots of opportunities for the nursery and pre-school to come…

Hi Mind gone all blank. Can anyone remind me where it states that both deputy and manager need to be level 3 qualified. I know this came into force in September 2008. Thanks
