Staff Demotivated And Disempowered
by Guest- 2 replies

is there anyone out there who could help? For a variety of reasons which I won't go into, many of our staff (Maintained Nursery school) are feeling demotivated and disempowered. Does anyone have, or know of, an anonymous questionnaire that we could use to give them a voice? issues are mainly to do with confidence when working/ interacting with children, staff thinking for themselves rather tha asking everything all of the time, staff interpreting everything to the letter and not using initiative to see if what has been said is relevant to a particular situation. Any help appreciated.

Hi I have a member of staff, 20yrs old and level 2 qualified but training to be level 3. This girl is lovely and at times its really obvious to see her heart is in the right place. However her performance fluctuates. She can go from doing well, impressing me, being praised etc to having a bad attitude, barely bothering and being generally poopr in terms of performance. We have had numerous informal chats about things she needs to address, where advise has been given and she has had opportunity to air her views and opinions, and whereas this works for a while it never lasts. I have moved her from one age group to another, which helped but then didn't. I make an…

Hi, I have a parent that owes quite a large sum of money for her childs place at breakfast club. Despite phone calls and letters the bill is still outstanding. I know there is a way I can open a money dispute online, but cannot find the website. Could anyone help me? Thanks in advance

Before the EYFS we were only ever allowed to have a max of 26 children in a room. I cannot find anything about it in the new pack. Is this still the case?

I wonder whether it's necessary to include something about this on job advertisements, and maybe job descritptions,in the same way as you might to say that an enhanced disclosure is required at the minute. I know it doesn't start until 12/10/09 but it does start with new entrants to the sector, I believe. Is it too soon? What do you think? Can anyone suggest appropriate wording?

After having a visit from Ofsted I was so pleased to finally get to the bottom of this "free flow" that family services are so keen on - Our setting has a range of children age 11 mths to over 3's and we were advised to free flow all ages etc, after 6mths of extremely hard work free flowing in 2 rooms and outside we as staff were worn out! Parents were not happy to see their child basically doing what they want and lots of the boys just wanted to play running around outside. After so much upset and young children not settling as we would expect them , we basically split the ages in 2 rooms. The little uns are so much happier - and so are the parents they are more able to…

Hi I have a member of staff you has been with the setting for 14 months now, she has the odd day off every month for different reasons, always phoning in sick. it's getting to the stage when the other staff are starting to get annoyed at having to cover her hours for her all the time..... but as we don't pay them when they are off sick, i don't know what to do, i have had discussions with her about it but nothing ever improves... do others have these problems and how do you deal with them...

Key Workers-their Role In Settings
by Guest- 12 replies

I have the agenda for our foundation stage staff meeting tomorrow. An item has been add by a staff member that she would like a discussion about what we (as a staff) think the role of the keyworker should be. I would be interested in other members views on this.I'm sure the role varies between sets so it would be helpful to know how others see the role.

Free Flow Ratios

I know this has been discussed before, but we are about to finally achieve 'free flow' from indoors to our garden area (we bought some barriers!) If we have one member of staff outside, what happens if lots of children suddenly free flow themselves outdoors. Does someone necessarily have to follow them or can the ratios be imbalanced for a short while? We have at least 3 staff in the setting but sometimes someone needs to prepare snacks, etc. so sometimes there might only be 2 available to work directly with the children. Also, we are thinking of going for a 'self registration' system so that the children can put their own pictures on a board when they go outsid…

Police Cautions And Crb Checks

Just after some info (not for my setting, for a friend who can't post on here) She works for a child care setting and has heard on the grapevine that a collegue was arrested after a fight with someone who had been harrising her for a while, apparently she was given a caution and the other lady was fined and also cautioned. My questions is, this collegue hasn't told anyone at work, should she have done? would it effect her employment?? Should my friend tell her manager? Thanks
