Hi Can i just ask whether people are having any joy with building up links with other settings..... many of our children attend 2 settings. I have tried phoning the other setting, suggesting we visit each other to discuss key children, exchange paperwork... we have sent records but nobody else has... then my early years advisor tells me ofsted want to see evidence of how we work in partnership with other settings...how can we prove what we are trying to do.......when other settings don't seem to want to share....

Hi It has been brought to our attention that some parents are discussing other families in the playground on the subject of head lice. Can you offer any advice as to how to tackle this problem. Obviously continuous problems with headlice in children's hair is very distressing and not to mention time consuming having to comb through thick hair. On the other hand talking about other families in this way is also unpleasant. Is it our role to intervene? Can we ask parents to consider the feelings of others, if so how? If we send out a letter, the families being talked about might not have been aware they were being talked about, sending out a letter could make th…

Today we had an incident where a child hit another child in the face, allegedly because the other child had hit him first. I had a word with Mum at the end of that day who told me that she has told him in no uncertain terms that if a child hits him he must hit them back. I tried to convince her that this wasn't appropriate, and that if someone hits him he must tell one of the adults, but she insisted that her way was what he'd be doing. So, we'd obviously have total anarchy if this was the rule for every child, plus what if it's a new little 2 year old who hits him, or he's hit by accident - does he 'shoot first and ask questions later?' I'm just not getting t…

Interview Questions Etc

It looks as though I'm going to need to interview potential new staff earlier than I thought and the interview format we used previously looks out of date in light of EYFS. Does anyone have some questions I could look at, just to save me time as I seem to be overloaded with visits, management clusters and all the other things that need sorting out at this time of year? I'd be very grateful & you'd probably reduce my stress levels greatly!

Staff Rotas

Ive got a bee in my bonnett at the moment about reviewing the 'teamwork' rota as I think it has become and bit too rigid with the staff........and the importance for them seems to have switched from the children to the 'jobs' i.e. putting rubbish out, cleaning up etc which I have reminded them that the children are our priority, and yes cleaning is also important it needs to be fitted in with the children not the children fitting in with the cleaning!!!! phew!!! does that make sense. Also, after receiving back staff appraisals in which I asked them to comment on their dislikes and likes about team work there is a general agreement on the fact that team work is 'ok' bu…

Playgroup Fees
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi, we are a committee run playgroup who over the last 6 months have had problem after problem with staff and committee members leaving, having to de-register from Ofsted, having no money and problems with current committee members. I am the playgroup leader and before our new treasurer joined i used to have to take the fees every week, now the new treasurer wants to do this but sits at a table for the full playgroup session every day and sorts the money and books. I have told her on numerous occasions that this cannot happen and asked how she can concentrate with all the children gathering round her, she just won't listen and carries on. She then accuses me of the fees n…

A nursery has been closed by police today after a nursery nurse was found with a disc full of indecent photo's of children. Is this something major or just an overeaction? I do fee lsorry for the owners if they are a small chain or independant. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/8090790.stm
