Break Entitlements

Please confirm that I am right! A member of staff has to work more than 6 hours to be entitled to a 20 minute break. If they work 6 hours or less they are entitled to a break at the Manager's discretion and where can I find the legal bit that says this?

Hi all Update...we are definately moving into the school although staff have not yet been invited to a meeting about this...chair, head and early years/reception teacher and TA attended only!!! Then our setting up lady this morning, whose hubby is on parish council said the chair went to parish meeting last night to ask for 10K (they got laughed at!) and were offered £500! Chair told them the situation and that when we move to school will only be able to offer 13 paces (currently 20 per day and numbers rising although will lose a few in sept). we have not yet been told this so we can only presume that they have a OFSTED in to take a look at the room we are to use (v…

What Is A Suitable Person?
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi was wondering hipothetically of course!!! (THINK THATS WRONG SPELLING SORRY)If a member of staff disclosed to you that they were depressed and on treatment by the doctor, would this member of staff be a suitable person???? Think I have to explain a little, doing this for a evaluation and would like some input from others. As in perspective of what others would do. Kat

by Guest- 13 replies

Hi Some of you may remember my post a few weeks ago regarding the Chairperson child not having a place at the Pre-School, this is a bit of a follow on... We have decided to open 4 mornings (rather than the current 3) but as I am on mat leave for a year and can only work 3 mornings, we will then ask the person who takes over of they would like to continue as deputy leader for the extra session and possibily a 5th Morning. However... today a familiy turned up to drop their daughter off (no prior notice!!) another mother has asked for a place for Son and another thinking about it, we now have 15 children wanting 9 places!! such a nightmare! We are in a small class…

This is my first posting so I hope you can bear with me. I am now very confused, because following a conversation today it would seem my supervisor has promoted another member of staff as deputy. There have been no formal interviews and the deputy post has not been advertised. I have QTS and have spent the last 4 years working in a pre-school. Previously, if the supervisor was off site then I was one of the people who acted as supervisor in her absence. I am also being asked to take on the role of graduate leader. Now I really need to know what my postion is and to whom I am accountable. Hoping someone can help with their opinion on this. Dennie

How Much Do You Charge?

I would love some feedback on what other settings charge for this sort of session time. we do sessional but will change to sessional and 9-3.00 in sept we will fit this around funding. I have had a quick look around our local area but have got vast differences in prices. One pre-school charges £11 for a full day how do they do this we will not be able to cover our costs. we are not for profit but are a worker run group so don't have many parents that fund-raise much to subsidize running costs. I would love to know anything about how others operate this way and what the pitfalls are , we cant stick to sessional we have not been busy this year more parents want full days o…

What Would You Do
by Guest- 20 replies

Hello Well its the AGM of our committee tonight and the chair wants to stay on as do about 4 other parents...think there are 2 new parents that may disagree about this so it may all kick off tonight! Anyway as you all know the background of our pre-school..finances dire...hours just been cut again etc today was a nightmare. Had 20 children, 4 under 3yrs and 3 staff (oh and out of that only 4 girls!). ...so running on min ratio all the time. What with toileting, trying to sort out parent queries, dealing with behaviour issues and 3 children who have yet to settle (crying etc...parents just left) it was a nightmare. All staff have had no time to do any obs for ages, o…
