Parent Price List / Neg

Hi All, We are a Hampshire Pathfiner nursery, we can claim the 15 hours NEG. I am putting together our info packs for new parents and I am stuck with how to explain the costs of the new grant system on our price list. Before, when it was sessional based it was easy - we just printed & explained they would get £8.50 (2.5 hours local grant) amount off their AM & PM sessions upto a max of 5 time, ie 5 x £8.50 = £42.50 per week. Does anybody else offering all day care (8am to 6pm) put this info on a price list?. Any samples or assistances would be greatly appreciated!. Regards Neil

Hi all. I recently came across a topic where someone had very kindly posted a link to a PLA leaflet on the responsibilities of a committee & recruiting new members. It was really good, but unfortunately I did not download a copy there and then (thinking I would do it later). Can anyone point me in the right direction to the link (I have tried 'search forum posts' but led nowhere!) thank you dottyp

Hi, I'm pondering the issue of how we fund resources and whether we can improve this (I'm chair). At the moment, we have given our leader the go ahead to buy anything up to £50 without asking, and to check with the committee if it's more than that. For instance, we're just looking into investing in a laptop for the setting. It occurs to me, though, that we're encouraging her to buy lots of little things, rather than to think longer term. Also, I think it smacks a bit of her having to 'ask permission' when really it should be her telling us what is needed. My idea was that if we gave her a budget for each term, she could spend what she needed and then save up fo…

Hi all, I've been asked by my setting leader (I'm chair) to come into the staff meeting tomorrow and talk to staff about their time keeping. They have had a fairly relaxed attitude over the last x number of years, but it's getting silly, as one member of staff ends up setting everything up in the mornings while the others come in 15 mins late. I'm very happy to do this for her, but my question is how to broach this? Am I best just to be clear cut - lateness not acceptable, your contract says 9am, we have a disciplinary procedure, etc. Or am I best to say it as 'we've decided to set a target for this term of punctuality, supporting your colleagues' and that sort of …

Operational Plan

I know this has been discussed before at some length. My question, having just done a total overhaul of our policies, is: do you think it's really necessary to have another copy of each policy, risk assessment etc in the Operational Plan if these are already in their own clearly indexed folders? Is it OK just to put 'see policy on---' or whatever? Or is it better to have it all together in one thick folder as well? I'm just getting fed up with the high levels of duplication that seem to interfere with doing the real work of relating to the children and their families!

Hi Just wanted to know if anyone is thinking about completing their foundation degree through the open university and if so have they managed to secure funding through their early years team or are they funding the course themselves? Some of my colleagues are attending college and have obtained funding but I decided to embark on an o.u route, which I hope meets the criteria for funding, otherwise it is going to be an expensive time. Would love to hear others comments about this. Thanks Kaz

I have been asked to do a presentation on developing opportunities for raising achievement in disadvantaged areas. I was wondering if anyone has had any successes in developing community links and partnerships with parents in deprived or ethnically diverse areas and could give me some ideas. Or even point me to some research or recent literature? I would be eternally gratefull!!!! Lesley

we have a member of staff who is constantly writing observations on her key children - this has left other staff angry and annoyed - we have broached the subject through a staff newsletter but she seems oblivious! i have broached it through a general chat when she was writing yet another observation on one of her children who was building using bricks ( he does this each time he is in) "well e. is building again - thats the thing now , unless he does something really different you dont need to be writing anything on him" (or words to that effect) she just continued to write - and i am sure that what he was building was no different to anything else he has built she t…
