Hi Are staff aloud to work in a room by themselves if they are still within there ratio. Or would Ofsted come down on us like a ton of bricks!!! Personally i think ofsted would have a heart attack, but i need to prove this to the owners. Currently none of our staff are in this situation, but our numbers are increasing and children are moving to new rooms because of birthdays and therefore we need to reoraganise our staff. I personally feel that there should be two members of staff in each room, no matter whether under ratio or not. I am fighting to get the owners to agree we need another memebr of staff so we have two in a room at least. Please can someone t…

Hi all Well sure most of you know whats going off at my pre-school. Found out today that current committee are voting as to if we should remain open. They are forcasting finances etc and its not good. Due to have AGM at end of April, new chair dropped out, cant get many current parents interested and new secretary met with current comm last night to talk finances...she doesnt want to do it anymore. Current chair would like to stay on as would treasurer (altho no kids at pre-school) but rest of committee want off. Cant see anyone wanting to take it on. Is it true that they woud be personally liable? One thought might be to close for next term and hopefully reopen at …

Hi, new to the forum, so forgive me if I make silly mistakes here. This is a question to all of you who work term times only. How are you going about giving your employees their additional holiday entitlement from 1 April 2009. As you will know, the entitlement goes up frpm 4.8 to 5.6 weeks of paid holiday per year. Would appreciate any of your thoughts

I was wondering if anyone had an idea where I can find information on pay scales for Early Years staff? We feel it is time for a review of our pay as there does not seem to be any incentive at the moment for staff to further their training. As for me, personally, I currently have CCLD level 3 and am being asked to do level 4 with a view to becoming Manager of the setting as the current supervisor does not wish to do any further training. Before I commit myself to anything I would like to know the average pay for a level 4 qualified practitioner. Can anyone help please?

Hi, If someone knocks the door at your setting to put their childs name on the waiting list and asks to "have a look around" do you let them in or do you make appointments/check identification etc. I know the childcare information bureau used to say to parents that settings should have an "open door" policy and that if settings didn't let you in then they were probably hiding something.... but what about security issues for the children in our care..??
