Leave Of Absence

Hi everyone, I am putting together a staff Leave of Abscence request form, in the main because staff are arranging their own cover for days off in term time and letting me know very last minute. As there is a very strong possibility that we will be moving next year onto a school site, which means more children and staff, I also think it is my role to arrange the cover and authorise leave etc. However I dont want to come over all authoritarian and put the staffs backs up. Is it appropriate to have a section for Reason for day off, or should I leave that blank Claire x

Hi, does anyone know the employment law on whether we are required to advertise a post externally? We're hoping to open an extra morning, and already have a couple of staff who've said they will cover this. But today a parent approached me and said she'd very much like to apply for any new job. Are we legally obliged to advertise and interview anyone who wants to apply, or can we just go with the two staff we've got to save adding more people to our already full team (we only open 4 mornings and have lots of people who only do a few hours each). Thanks in advance for anyone's advice.

Hi I know started off yet another topic! Well you all probably know my woes at pre-school! Have been looking for a while for another job as pre-school assistant...no not to give up the job ihave already but to try and find something else so that i can give up my sainsburys job at night and woud fit in with the 2 mornings that i do already. I am waiting for details to come through about one that is potential (depends on actual times). Anyway I am noticing that even for assitant level positions all adverts want already qualified staff. I am at the moment unqualified although have started diploma in pre-school practice (equivalent to level 3). I have got higher quali…

Hi all Going to have a moan AGAIN Well from numerous other topics I have posted you will know things are not good at my pre-school. Finances are dire due to having paid for agency deputy for months, they got a new deputy, she lasted couple of months then left, got originally agency deputy to actually take the job last month and she will also be leaving shortly. Anyway then came the "got lot of children intrested in joining and could I do extra to my 2 days per week", yes.....now wait for this...... Been told today that chair says we are claiming too much for wages and hours will be cut. How they are going to do this we dont know. They are not going to pay for…

I'm just rejigging my operational plan, as I promised i ws going to at the start of the holidays, Now - (and now I know i've officially lost it) what should the sections be?? My old one was Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy and Achieve, Make a Positive Contribution and Economic Well-being. BUT the list I have for what goes in what section (which I think I got from here) has Safeguarding and Promoting Children's Welfare, Suitable premises, environment and equipment, Suitable People, Organisation, Documentation So which is best? Can someone please help me, my manager who i so much trusted and relied on so much has suddenly decided that she doesn't want to work for me anymore. We got on so well infact i treated her like my own younger sister instead of my staff. The worst part is that she couldn't have chosen a worse time has i have just given birth just 12 days ago via caesarian section and still in lots of pain and discomfort. I have just completed my NVQ Level 3 in childcare and seriously considering on making myself the manager since it seems you cant trust anyone to manage one's business. The problem however is that i feel i dont have enough experience most espeacially when it co…

Ages ago I sent a questionaire to all parents, asking their opinions or concerns on the Pre-school. I decided I should compile another one but thought I would ask if any of you have any ideas on what sort of questions i should ask. Can you help please? Sue J

Opportunity Or Not?

Hi, without giving too much away I might have the opportunity to appear in a documentary about childcare - no not the whistleblowing kind - more to do with men in childcare. My role would be to be the manager of a nursery overseeing some men working in it alongside nursery workers. My boss and I will be going to a meeting with the production team. I have many many many questions and concerns as you might expect; the main one being that it must portray nurseries, me and my employers in a positive light; there has been enough negative publicity to do with nurseries and as a passionate professional I really don't want it to have a negative outcome! What are your thoughts…

Part Time Staff And Eyfs
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi - having spent the whole week doing new rotas and paperwork - I was just wondereing how everyone else manages with part time staff and the EYFS ethos. We are a sessional pre-school (open morning only) and all staff (except for me work part time. That is no one works every day - the committee don't think it's good for staff to be in everyday However with the EYFS planning from childrens interests, following their lead etc - I find this a nightmare to try and run with. We have been desperatley trying to grasp the next steps, identify interests and - but I find the staff memeber involved in the initial activity might not be in again for a week or we have 2 new…
