hi, we are a small pre-school on a school site. we have an income (mostly from EYFE money) of around 30,000 but don't make any profit. do we have to register as a charity? i think I need to advise the committee on this as they have not done anything about it and I'm worried there might be a problem at some point. thanks

Help - i have a planned commitee meeting tomorrow morning and I have been given a tip off - that several parents are going to come in and hand in a petition that we must exclude a little boy . To say I'm livid is an understatement - the lad is a very lively three year old, who to be fair has some behavioural issues. When he's in we give him a member of staff, have plan in place - but one parent has decided her little girl is scared of him ( he screaches and unfortunatley has bitten this week- not her!) and he can't stay. But I have just spent the last 2 days with his mum and she is fantastic, she admits she lost and struggling - has taken away advice, booked appoi…

Crb

Hey guys, Just wanted to clarify something, I attended a Safeguarding children Level 2 course today and we got onto the topic of CRB disclosures and parent helpers. We have lots of 'one off' parent helpers who have a days holiday and come in, my problem is that i always thought that if they were supervised all day and not left alone with any children at any time they didnt need a CRB check. According to the lady taking my course today who workes as a DS for the police we should have them all CRB cleared. Im Just worried that if this is the case we would never have any parent helpers? - If they offer and we tell them they need to complete a form and it can take 8 …

Hi all I need your help once more. We have just moved settings and have found that we can not get a mobile signal whilst in our building. As you can imagine this has caused us endless problems. If anybody else is in a Community Centre and has problems like this how did you fix it? The Council refuse to put a land line in, (they say it would cost £10,000) despite telling my Ofsted inspector that there would be one. thanks Debbie

Hi all, This is my first post and it's a bit of a ramble but it's in desperation as I am tempted to quit after 12 years ! Would just like to say have picked up loads of brilliant tips and ideas from the Forum previously but have never felt brave enough to join in. However I need to communicate with like minded people to retain my sanity! For the last 6 years I have managed a community pre-school that was set up as a Charitable company by the Head Teacher & board of governers of the local primary school. I have never really got my head around this set up - governors were trustees and the head was company secretary but the only person who physically did anything were …

Falling Numbers In Children
by Guest- 17 replies

Hi, has anybody else found that the number of children enroled has decreased please? We are currently struggling to recruit new children which we urgently need. There are many factors involved I realise as to the cause of this. In our situation our main reasons are that we have a children's centre just up the road from us and another nursery in very close proximity who is charging way less than us, (how I do not know as we are one of the cheapest nurseries in the area). Alongside this the credit crunch has caused us to lose a few children where parents have lost jobs etc. I just wondered if anyone else was experiencing the same thing and if anyone has any ideas how we can…
