Well we got our bill from Ofsted on Friday for our registration fee, and as it said 'Childcare Provider Fee High' I thought I would query it - after all, the last letter I got from them about our registration stated that we cared for children from birth to age 17 or something (HAN!) So I phoned and queried it, and it took ages of course, and I had to give everything including my shoe size to get to speak to someone in billing, but it was worth it, because it's too high! They are sending a new bill - greatly reduced apparently, thank goodness

Hi everyone we are trying to secure some funding to enable us to move ion to our local primary school site. The Essex County Council have asked us to set up a partnership agreement with the head at the school. Has anyone ever done one of these and could give me some pointers as to what to put in it? Thanks Lisax

Hoping someone can help with this one! Under the Foundation Stage we believed [i hope we were right!] that children's observations, assessments were ultimately the property of the parents. Under EYFS, however, one of advisory teachers says it's not so clear about ownership. Try as I might I cannot find clarity in the EYFS documents. I guess I keep missing it! Can someone help with a page number? I would be very grateful as I need clarity for a particular case that I won't go into here.

hi all a little background: I am manager of a nursery. we have two owners. one of whom is in nursery almost everyday, the other is a silent partner, who we only really see once a month for management meeting. both have children at nursery so are in each day to drop their children in. i have managed the nursery 2 years 4 months, (one year 4 months under the ownership of the new owners). at first everything was great under the new ownership. the owners valued my opinions, indeed they needed me to help show them the ropes in some aspects for running a nursery. i was very much the manager and focal figure for the nursery. even when the owners took over they assu…

Dear All, I need to appoint rooomleaders and deputy manager, can i employ someone with NVQ level 2 with maybe 3 -4 years experience and working towards level 3. I have a qualified teacher working for me at present, she is working in the nursery only to gain experience, to get a job in school, which we both agreed on. it is just that my NVQ staff are much better that her, and she has a degree. Would ofsted allow experienced level 2 working towards level 3 as DMS, Roomleaders? Thanks

i would be grateful for any suggestions-i am a preschool leader of a charitable pre school-we are run by a very very very big charity who now offer provision within many childrens centres. they have now decided that our preschools which are run from a portacabin and former shop are outdated and insufficient therefore have mentioned redundancy!!!! they have offered alternative employment at two children centres which i went to view yesterday-i am so dissapointed-their nursery provision was nowhere near as nice as ours-bare walls, minimum staff ratios, minimum planning on display, hardly any childrens work on display-i could go on and on-i feel absolutely gutted-what can we …

Hi all this is my third year in nursery but I am finding it a real struggle. I have had a management thrust upon me without much option to do anything else. I never wanted management and do not relish the task although I love this age range. I am at a stage where I can't see the wood for the trees and really need some guidance. We have had little or no trainging on the EYFS and I really feel I am struggling to know what I should be doing in terms of leading a team of 3 others with 52 part-time children. (we are a nurserya ttached to a school. Has anyone got a kind of list (for want of a better word) of the things I should be doing? I am on the verge of giving up as I …

Recently one of the directors has taken up a position at the nursery. So far several members of staff have left (including myself - I have had counselling cause of this!) He belittles the staff and reduces many too tears. Is there anyone the staff can go to for help and support? The co-owner is his wife which puts them in a difficult situation! Any help would be great - thanks
