Hi - Am hoping will get some responses quickly if any of you are around as this is due to be discussed at committee on Monday and I am not quite sure how I feel about it. I am committee chair not staff so this proposal has no pros or cons for me directly. We are a charity committee run playgroup with 6 members of staff. we operate 5 days a week 9-1, and 1 day a week 9-3 (which will go up in Jan to 4 days 9-3). Basically a member of the committee, has put forward a proposal that we should consider reducing the fees for staff if they have their child in playgroup. This would affect 2 of our 6 staff now who have children in already and 1 who is waiting. Th…

Welfare Audit

Has anyone had one of these? We have one on Monday morning. Our local Birth to Five service have taken over what used to be the role of the Development Officer from Children's Links. Some of the staff have transferred and they are doing a baseline audti for the county on the Welfare side of EYFS. Apparently some settings have not particularly enjoyed the experience! Some said it was worse than OFSTED! Just wondered if other counties have anything similar?

HI all, this may get long. i would really appreciate the advice / experience of the more experienced members here. bit of background, i manage a 53 place day nursery, have done for two and a half years now. longest member of staff has been there 8 years, shortest is 4 months, and most others averaging 4 plus years... so not a bad staff record. ofsted last year was good, although near to outstanding. (believe me we would not be here at present and it sadness me!) I have had one week off work on my lovely hols. prior to leaving for hols i was very dispondant with regards to my own manager (owner of nursery) i had a chat with her before hols and we will see how t…

Settling In Problems

What do people think about this. Any help at all will do. I teach a Reception Class of 30, and also lead the Foundation Stage. My Nursery is far away from Reception and I walk miles round the building to see them. Today I spent some time with them. They have 26 children and 2 staff only. Odd students but that's it. I found them tearing their hair out with two new children who would not stop screaming. Both have been in for 2 weeks. They have been told to take in children all year round as soon as they turn 3 until full so therefore they are virtually settling in all year round. One staff member was taking care of a child making themself sick from crying,…

I need a bit of advice from local providers. In the last 4 years I have only put my fees up twice, about every 18 months. However, I had planned to put fees up in January. However, in the last couple of weeks I have lost two full time children and one part time child because their parents have either been made redundant or they have gone on short hours and simply can't afford the fees and grandparents are going to save them money. On top of this I am finding that we aren't getting as many babies under 12 months as we previously have enjoyed, which I am wondering whether this has now filtered down from the 9 month's paid maternity leave. My Tweenies and Toddlers…

Hello. The Pre-School chair (and I think it's a good idea too) would like me to start sending a letter to parents at the beginning of each term which tells them what themes and activities we will be doing. She would also like me to include the learning aims, ideas for continuing learning at home and the resources needed. Does anyone do this and if so what (and how much) to you tell the parents? I have long term planning with ideas of themes and focus activites but most of the detail is done weekly as I do the planning. Any ideas would be very gratefully recieved!
