Sensory Garden
by Guest- 7 replies

Hi Last term I applied to the National Lottery 'Awards for all' programme for funding for a sensory garden. We were successful in our bid and have since been awarded over £9000!!! The idea is to create a sensory garden for Foundation and Year One children. We have had a few people out to give us ideas but most of them seem to be targetted at older children/adults. Has anyone created a garden or have any ideas we could use? I've been trying to search for photographs on the web but they seem hard to come by. I would like to incorporate a bridge, water feature and some sort of willow den area. Any other ideas would be gratefully received! Thanks in advance Vicki

Staffing

Unfortunately I am experiencing some staffing difficulties, we all know childcare doesn’t pay the best money so a lot of my staff members have decided to leave and become Nannies, as they feel this is less pressure and the younger girls seam to want more freedom, so to parents it looks like we experiencing a high turnover of staff, but because we are a large nursery with 30 nursery workers (not including domestic staff) loosing 4 members of staff isn’t really a lot. Obviously we have had a few concerns from parents, which is totally understandable as we are looking after the most precious person in their lives. We are based in a very small community and once one pa…

Hi, I'm wondering how many of you use the PSLA constitution as your standard constitution? We had to send this when we first became a Registered Charity and we were told that if we ever opted out of the PSLA constitution then the one we adopted would have to be 'passed' by them before we could remain a registered charity. Has anyone out there tackled this, and what did you do? I'm also considering Incorporation, but even though I've looked at the PSLA stuff, I still can't quite get my head round what it entails, and what any benefits or additional liabilities there would be. Is there anyone out there who would be willing to offer their expertise or knowledge to advise…

Hi all Not sure if any of you have been following my situation at the pre-school .......anyway on temporary contract (although havent got one at the mo!) to do Wed/Thurs. Committeee looked at number of children for next term and 3 or 4 of them "turn" ...to the magical 3 years that is So, they then decided that given they are paying for an agency deputy and sometimes agency staff (covering sickness and training) that they have to reduce the staff...hence me . Well Supervisor having waited since July time for new deputy (3rd attempt at interviewing in 2 weeks time :( ) has told committee enough! She doesnt want to lose me as member of staff. Other assistant who …

Advertising For Committee Officers
by Guest- 4 replies

This thought has come from the topic on staff wages, plus the recent discussions about the difficulties with maintaining committee members, committee members abilities etc. Has anyone ever thought about advertising for committee members from the community, outside of the parent members? The reason I've thought of this is because Officer roles really do need someone who has the time and inclination to give the 'task' it's due attention, such as a treasurer really does need someone who is 'numerate' and interested in accounts, budgets etc. When I worked in a committee run preschool (many years ago) my dad became treasurer. He was a retired pensioner, I asked h…

A Bit Of A Rant
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi all, firstly huge apologies for not being around much recently. things have been very busy work wise. I have now been managing my setting for 2 years two months and in that time have seen the nursery through two ofsted inspections, both good outcomes (and the most recent was very near outstanding). we have had new owners and children and staff leave and start.... so i guess a normal run of the mill life. however about three months ago a decision that i made has led to some disrepute between the nursery and an ex-member of staff. the nursery owner supports me in the decision made, despite the consequences we are seeing now, however i am feeling so bad and ab…

Could you help I have been asked to become chair person of a charity run per school at there next AGM but, before I say I will stand for chair, I need to know what it involves? As like others I work, run a family home and am trying to finish my FD with OU. Although it will be good for knowledge and evidence, I need to understand more before saying yes. As I have always worked for private or county run childcare provision Thanks Sam

Milk Scheme
by Guest- 3 replies

For a short time, sadly, due to apparent theft of milk delivered, we were part of the Cool Milk scheme. We have now gone back to buying it from a supermarket which is very close by. However, Cool Milk are still sending me info by email. The latest says that we have to apply for a number, or if,as in our case, we have one already we must reapply, and send the form to Cool Milk. I assume that we will send ours direct to NMRU, but I'm wondering whether anyone who has always bought their milk independently and then claimed has heard about this? It says you can call NMRU on 0844 991 4444 if you are unsure whether or not you have an NMRU number, but in the past when I've tried …
