Hi all Well just had email from our chair who says that once she has sorted some staff and finance issues out then she is going to start planning for an internal OFSTED Anybody else had this then? I am presuming she is going to be doing this herself I have yet to tell the supervisor this one Can she do this? How can she when she has no childcare qualifications etc? We were in special measures after OFSTED this time last year, got new supervisor and seen many staff changes so much so that the OFSTED visit in April meant the new supervisor had agency staff in as deputy (arrived on the same day as OFSTED!), one staff and 2 parent helps. New supervisor dealt …

Hi everyone! I've got a query regarding including a student who is on a long term placement in the setting all the time aged 17 being counted into the ratios. Under the EYFS it states we can include her in the ratio (she is paid not a volunteer), However, the Ofsted requirements state that only a person aged 18 or over can be included in the ratios. Would welcome clarification on this!

Help, Who Do I Turn To Now?

Hi there, I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea of who I can turn to after a disasterous change to a new Treasurer? Basically I have a list as long as your arm of complaints from the staff and myself. I have a treasurer who hasn't got the wages right in months and has made a string of mistakes, but is highly intelligent and insists on reading any document we use and tearing it apart, writing a dissertation on it, referencing the whole lot, providing points to any readers, as well as discussing whether the council/ofsted/eyfs should be using these documents as they may have been researched in hispanic areas of the USA and may not be valid etc, etc! He has…

Wages And Attending Courses?
by Guest- 11 replies

Hi, about to go on a series of courses in Oct (child protection and EYFS). The EYFS is funded so I get paid and the committee get paid my wages from LEA. The child protction one isnt but I will be paid (well hope so!). Thing is I know there is a big clamp down on overtime at the pre-school due to finances Like we get paid for even half of what we actually do The courses I am going on are all at night time (so no cover required) however they are a distance away..20 miles return trip each time at 10 trips. One staff member (special needs ) says she is goping to claim petrol for hers (she is only doing 3) and I wonder if I should be trying to claim mine? I am actual…

Selling Up!
by Guest- 6 replies

After 11 years of owning/running a pre-school in partnership with a very good friend, I have decided to hang up my boots and give it all up. This is the problem: My friend doesn't think she can work with anyone else and so has decided that the best way forward will be to sell the business, have half of the profits each and then hopefully she and all the staff will be employed by the new owner. If this cann't happen then we will close down and sell off all of our equipment. Question: How do you go about valuing the pre-school and where do you advertise without parents getting wind of it and panicing! We have a very good reputation in the town, we had a 'go…

I am leader of a committee run preschool, I just started in september and now the chair has resigned because the workload is too much. There is nobody willing to take on the role as , and I agree, the amount of work for an unpaid parent is too much. What help and advice can myself and the committee get. We are due OFSTED any day, and the paper work is in a poor state. I am only just finding my feet and now don't know what to do. If anyone can offer advice I would be very grateful as I feel like resigning myself. I am only paid for the time the children attend and I am not supernumary, so most of my spare time is already taken up with prep, planning, and other p…

Hello I am new to this site so bare with me!. I am thinking of taking over a pre-school which is well established . I know most of what goes on , but what I am unsure about is the wages side of things. I am looking for advice from anyone who has set up a pre-school as to how you cover the wage bill initially whilst waiting for your first lot of funding. Also is there any other funding avialable other than voucher funding?. Also how do people cover the school holidays ? do you slpit over 52 weeks . What are the extras for the government side of things and are there any hidden extras? Sorry to ask so many questions but need to know this before I consider. Thanks in a…
