It is looking quite hopeful that i will be employing someone with a childhood studies degree I have looked into the Graduate Leader Fund and found that we will receive £5000 for improving quality within the setting. Obviously this is fantastic news and i have been excited about it all weekend, however i have just started worrying about how i will spend the money!! The majority of our training is from the council, we pay an annual subscription for this so i try to get the staff on as many courses as possible to make it worthwhile. I am sure there is some fantastic training available but where do i find out about it? What type of training have others s…

Pre School Funding! Please Help.

Hi, really feeling out of my depth, hopefully someone can help. I am new to Pre Schools and have only ever completed one funding claim form which didn't seem too complicated. I am now on my second funding form (actually managed to survive a whole term!) and not sure about one of the questions on the form. I am being asked to write down how many funded sessions (i.e. vacancies) are currently available and how many non-funded childcare places are available. I am sure I am missing something really obvious but am not sure how I work this out. I know how many more children I can accept each day but how do I know whether they will be old enough for funding or not. If anyone…

Me again in need of some more advice, at the last minute too. What happened: Right a child who needed a nappy changing right at the end of session has parents where arriving. I was in end of session I couldn't leave the room (non CRB'ed person in with me) so I opened the door and asked a member of staff to change the nappy. This staff member infront of parents said 'no parents are here', I told her to do it, and she walked off. Quite a few parents noticed this. The nappy did get done but when all the parents left (I did it has their key person) about 5 minutes later. but due to the nature of there nappies there bum was sore. What should I have done? …

My officer in charge and deputy have just come back from a meeting at the foundation stage base, the invitation we received had the EYFS symbol on it and said all settings are expected to use the tracker from sept 08. We all thought this was to help with obseving and assessing the children within the EYFS framework, after going to the meeting we now find we've got to do this on top of everything else and there no choice. Every child has to have a copy of the tracker in their records and we're expected to produce one for each child. The document is 17 pages long and we have 70 children on roll at present a total of 1190 pages! We are only a small nursery and this will …

Hi all We have recieved a letter from OFSTED that says that the conditions in our current certificate will continue to apply, to the extent that, "you will only be permitted to provide care for children from birth until they attain the age of three" We are a sessional pre-school for ages 2 to 4+. We have run like this for more than 30 years. We haven't changed anything, so what has happened ? Can anyone help me before i ring OFSTED tomorrow and have any other pre-schools received a smiilar letter or can tell me what should be on their registration?

Our new manager has just had a 'chat' with Ofsted who sent us the incorrect registration certificate for our variation to conditions...In the converation they have told us that there is no longer full / sessional daycare but it is now the same...and to expect a new certificate in the next few months... so those wishing to extend or add hours, a phone call to check may be all you need to do... BTW we can now operate full daycare.... soooo many changes all at once. (and for those who know why we had to wait we still do not have a separate toilet for staff and are OK!) Inge

Hi could anyone help with a query I have. I have been working really hard sorting all our evidence into the 4 themes and 16 commitments to evidence what we do. What I am struggling with is how all the statutory side fits in with this. I can see things like how safeguarding fits in with a Unique child etc. Has anyone else complied the two together? Also how does things like finance fit in? Sorry if I'm not making any sense! (Nothing new there then)
