Union

I have just come across some reading matter detailing different unions. I don't belong to a union, it seems quite a chunk out of my wages, but wonder if I'm in the majority or minority. Would appreciate any thoughts or comments, thanks, jackie

We are a committee run pre-school. I just wondered how much imput your committee have in the everyday running of the pre-school. Especially with the staff, mine seem to be disciplining staff and monitoring them, for example i spoke to a member of staff about her record keeping, committee have now taken to checking her record keeping every week to check she is doing it, i do feel they are going over my head or am i just being too emotional. They have also asked staff to come to them with any problems etc. I just wondered how much involvement your committe have and where you draw the line....

Earlier today I saw a post re work force training plans......... It sounded like a great idea and I wondered if anyone used one and was it similar to the one described? That post was for Milton Keynes users only hence why I am asking if anyone uses one I could possibly look at? Thank you!

I'm not sure if there are any other posts about this but I was wondering what other sessional pre-schools did regarding deposits. At the moment we don't charge anything but I have got to the stage where I think I am going to have to! Having sorted out and finalised sessions for 08/09 in April I have had quite a few people cancel places. I have just phoned a new parent (who had 4 sessions for her child) to re-confirm her childs start date and she told me she didn't want the places anymore....aaaaggggghhhhhhhh!!!! Quite cross at the mo!! So... Do others charge? If so, how much? Do you refund the deposit or use it as 'admin fees' or anything else? Do you charge the …

hi all, sorry i have not been around much, it's been mad. but i really need to pick your brains. I have recently done a reference for a member of staff at my nursery who is leaving. the reference asked me if i would re-employ and i answered honestly 'no' (there have been a string on issues that this staff member has been spoken to about but has never had to lead to disciplinarary action, however i still would not re-employ her due to her not being committed and her attiude to senior staff. i put all this on her reference. i also put her good points too and answered all the questions, i felt the balance was right and it was an honest reference. the nursery owner…

it has come from head office that if we have annual leave booked and are off work but Ofsted turn up we will be called up to come into the nursery. i can understand that they want the whole team there to support each other during an inspection, however i think it is completely out of order to expect us to give up a holiday day and also for them to phone us at home, obviously if we are abroad they couldnt expct us to come in but i have booked time off to spnd time with my partner and to do work on our new house, i alrady give up so much of my own time. are they legally allowed to do this???

Please can anyone give me some advice? I resigned from my position of Manager of a session pre-school almost 3 weeks ago. As yet the directors have not put an advert in to fill the position. This means that there is no 'person in overall charge' when the staff return in September. We do have deputy supervisors who will supervise sessions (and enough of them to ensure that there is 1 super and one deputy per session) but does anyone know the legallity of not having a 'person in charge'? We are a charity and as of a few weeks ago, we have no committee, due to the directors (suddenly) changing the structure of the group (as we are also a company limited by guarente…
