Can any one help. I have quiet a few parents that speak only Malayalam I'm not sure if they speak Hindi as well but what we need is some one that can do some translations of policies for us. Have found a company and they charge a fortune so we can't afford them. I am going to see if the best english speaking parent could do some translating for us but wonder if any one knows of any information that we could give parents in their own language. thanks steph

I am in need of some more advice again, this time with staffing. A couple of the staff are going at the end of term. We are a sessional pre-school from Septmeber we will be extending our sessions to 3 hours each morning. I as the manager work 4 mornings when doing my FD at college and 5 days if not at college (if needed). Right as I understand it you need a named deputy who is able to take charge in absence of me, does this mean we need a deputy for all 5 mornings? Or can the named deputy work 3 or 4 sessions? I have someone in mind for this postion but its compilcated to explain. I hope you can help me. Thanks Beth

Sessional To Full Day Care

Help please. We want to remain sessional pre school, but feel that to implement the increase to 15hrs flexibly we would have to change to full day care (we definately don't 'do babies/toddlers')- ages would be 2.5 years - 4+ yrs. Looking into allsorts of possibilities (including relocation)at the moment, we are in rented hall (not ideal, by a long way!) Adavantages vs disadvantages of changing our registration from sessional to full day care? Can you help?

In PLA Under 5's magazine this month they talked about NSPCC resource 'Thermal Injuries on Children'/ It gives guidance to help those working with children to identify the difference between accidental and deliberate burns on children. You can find it here: www.nspcc.org.uk/inform You can download or order up to 5 free copies for your setting.

If any one has followed my saga we were shutting on the 18th July. Well we have been saved at the 11th hour. We have had a lovely man who is the manager of our local stadium (dog track/dirtbike racing not football) and has given us the Social club building that is attached to it. The building is being refurbished completely new heating electrics air conditioning toilets new kitchen. He is even going to build us new decking and outside area. We cannot believe that someone can out of the blue offer us a building and be so nice. I don't think he quite realises what he has given us. My parents are estatic. They want to have celebrations and everything. Today we were only…

Hi, I was just wandering if any of you have mixed ages in the same room? I have recently taken over a setting which has children ranging from 2 to 5, which is a nightmare when considering choking hazards and outdoor play. Just wandered how others might manage the set up, Thanks Tracey

Model Constitution

Has anyone got a model constitution that they wouldn't mind sharing, that governs the running of their pre-school group? I'm helping a pre-school setting with a bid for some funding and they need to adopt a constitution - I know the PLA have one but that's just for their members isn't it?

I am in my 50th year and have never, ever had a row with anyone other than my husband or children - until Tuesday, at work. It's quite a complex scenario, but began with four members of staff going on training, funded by Transformation fund, to do level 3. Three of them worked the day of the training, and so we had to provide cover - in fact, took on new members of staff. We offered those on training the option of working more sessions so they would not miss out on wages - their contract with us states that training, meetings, etc., are all included in their hourly rate of pay. Two did decide to take extra sessions, one did not Then the transformation fund prov…
