Im just wondering if anyone has one i could take a peek at?? i think im on the right lines but want to make sure im not deluding myself! lucie x

How long do people keep their registers and accident books at early years settings? I can't find anything in the EYFS documentation - just that individual children's files should be kept for three years (stated on page 40 of the Statutory Framework). What do you consider to be good practice?

I've edited this post as I think it may have sounded a bit shirty! Apologies, was just in a hurry. I would really appreciate your responses. I know that from september you can no longer have a manager/supervisor who is working towards level 3, they have to have attained the qualification. What about deputies? It says in the EYFS statutory framework half all other staff have to have level 2, so can you have a Deputy who is working towards level 3? it does say you must have a named Deputy who can take charge in the Manager's absence. does this mean they have to have a full level 3 or could they be working towards? If they are only working towards, can they take cha…

I don't want to go into much detail, this morning I set up the outdoor equipment for the children to play with. The children never got the chance to play out (it always seem to be me to insitage (sp) outdoor play). Now at the end of session everything was put away exept for the bikes (deputy and me put away), I was in another room talking to the chair and PLA development worker. Anyway I was after some advice, should I call a meeting for this problem as a group (athough all will not be able to turn up) or talk to the staff individually during the session? This is to ensure that everything is done before leaving the building, plus to make a list of what needs put…

Hi I have a bit of a problem with a member of staff who at times is displaying an attitude problem which is mostly directed at me. I have sat down and had a one-to-one session with her to establish what the reasons were and basically because she is a mod app, she thought she shouldn't have to do what the other staff do and that i expect too much of her as other students don't aparently do half of what she does. She has now been with me for a year and a half and is training for her level 3. She doesn't always carry out her duties and i catch her many times not interacting with the children. Prior to her attitude, she was actually a good member of staff. After i had a…

hi everyone, im looking for some help, sorry. i would like to know what you would class as gross misconduct within a childcare setting, as i need to know if this is what im dealing with but dont want to give too much of a scenario in case it is recognised! thanks in advance for your thoughts, ok just to add, ive been looking on acas and it says that a person can be dismissed because of 'their capability to do the job' or 'because a restriction prohibited the employment continuing'. our ofted inspector said that she was incompetent in her position, and there is no other position for her bc we are a small team, is this then grounds for dismissal. p.s. t…

As nursery owner i have always just bought things as and when they are required, but have been struggling recently to keep on top of this due to being pretty busy. I would like to give the management staff more responsibility and allocate each area a monthly/termly budget, i would like to this to include all equipment and cleaning products, but not training. We have three areas:- babies (12 chn), toddlers (32 chn), preschool (26 chn). My question is do any of you have any tips of approx amounts that you either allocate or recieve? I am worried about giving too little and the children not having enough or giving too much and it being spent for the sake of i…

Being A Deputy Manager!

Hi everyone, I have been deputy manager at a full daycare private setting for about 18 months. Owned by private individuals who are not teachers. We have 105 children on roll and three rooms. I am supervisor in the older room (2.5 - 5 yrs) with average numbers 24 attending during the day, at least 20 having cooked lunch every day. Finding the balance between being in the classroom and being in the office really difficult at times. I feel a great sense of responsibility towards the staff in my room (7 - 1 full time) and there always seems to be pressure on our room to provide staff to cover ratios in the younger rooms due to staff absences and holidays. I step i…
