Hi all you wonderful people here, I need some advice...... I have a staff member who has received a written warning for leaving a child in the room alone (this was November 07). At this time we also had issues with this member of staffs attitude, and the fact that the staff member seemed generally uninterested in being aorund the children and involved in nursery life. following the verbal warning things did seem to improve... however, today i have had a written complaint from a member of staff telling me that the member of staff (the one with the warning) had told a child to go away (she then guided him away from herself but did this a little forcibly and …

How much information do you think a committee run pre school should give a pre school leader. I ask because it seems that in my pre school the committee have become very secretive in providing any form of imformation about the finances, meetings they have and general fundraising and ideas for the future. It feels as though the staff are just there to run the session. We are not allowed to view any information that is sent to the setting and now outside agencies(EYDO) speak to the Chair and not the leader or deputy as before. All staff feel as though we are not trusted but I feel the chair has almost taken over and is on some form of power trip! I would welcome yo…

Has anyone got any tried and tested methods for reducing staff absence. I have a large setting with an outrageous level! Have made inroads to the problem but would like to introduce something that has a dramatic and immediate impact! Any ideas? Anyone had a similar problem that they have resolved?

Milk Claims

I have spent ages this morning going through the last term's registers and calculating actual attendance for my milk claim form. Half way through it occurred to me that maybe expected attendance is sufficient, eg 20 on a Monday, 19 on a Tues, calculated over the term. Does anyone know? I haven't ever completed the actual form as our Treasurer does this so am not sure what it asks for.

Has anyone had any experience of a staff member who is frequently off ill. I am experiencing this. She is either ill or off with her daughter - a lot more than is acceptable. It is really starting to affect the team she works with and the quality of provision. Have had meetings with her but there are no causes. Half the time tho I don't believe her.

Raising Profile Of Deputy

Because we open such long hours, and are such a large nursery, I am lucky to have 2 deputies. One is full-time and is based on one floor of the nursery; the other works 20 hours and leads the pre-school on the other floor. Her shifts vary greatly from week to week, and she does not get out of the room much, because I want her to lead the grant times as much as possible. Therefore, if I am off, it it usually the full-time deputy who steps in as manager. Anyway, I was off all of last week, and it materialises today that they found the week a bit tough. In particular, the part-time deputy said that on the day she was acting as manager, she had staff who either went ag…
