Attitude

I am preparing to meet with one of my room supervisors (I have 5) next week, and want to get the meeting right. She has a VERY up and down attitude and disposition. It either alters by the day, or sometimes throughout the day. She frequently gives off the impression that she is in a mood or unhappy, and this is having a knock on effect on her room team. She certainly is not motivating them (or the children), and you always wonder when you go in the room what the atmosphere is going to be like. I have talked to her about it before, and she says she is fine and it's just her way. She's not bored, etc, etc. Apparently she has been like this for 7 years, and s…

We need some advice regarding our setting. The relationship between us and a set of parents has completely broken down. They have complained to Ofsted about us,although after we completed a report back to Ofsted they were completely satisfied as to the actions taken by us.They do not acknowledge myself and my co-manager when we say hello. They deal with other members of staff only. The atmosphere has been extremely strained and we have done everything we have been advised to do for example invitations to improve relations however the parents have not accepted these. There have been other uncomfortable incidents such as the Father using very inappropriate language infront of ot…

Hello everyone! I am looking for some help with structuring a day with nursery children. Please don't think I am trying to impose a rigid timetable or trying to make it too mush like YR in a schoo, but I would like to know how people run their days in a day care setting with 3-5 yr olds. Can anyone help?! Any ideas would be greatfully recieved! Matt

Student Contract
by Guest Wolfie- 9 replies

Over the last twelve months we have accepted four mature students into our maintained nursery school on placement for their NVQ 3 course. All seemed keen to work and learn and started off well. However, as time has gone on, their reliability, attitude and willingness to work as part of our team has declined to the extent that our headteacher is now considering whether to accept students in the future. She is wondering whether she should introduce some kind of student contract which clearly sets out expectations on both sides and which is signed by both parties. Does anyone else do this and, if so, would they be willing to share a copy of their contract? I do actua…

Staff Self-appraisal Forms
by Guest- 2 replies

Hope you can help me. We are reviewing our staff self-appraisal form, at the moment ours is basic with 'What are your strengths/weaknesses' type questions . We hope that our new form will indicate more clearly areas where staff feel that they need more training etc. I have thought about creating a grading system covering a range of topics and areas, but am not sure how much detail to go into. So does anyone have any they forms that they are willing to share, even if not on a grading bais. All help would be welcome Karen

I'm sure this has been discussed before but things do change and I was wondering what you pay staff, if anything, for attending planning/staffing meetings. We have a weekly staff meeting after the Friday session. We want to become more child centred with our planning, involve all staff. We all need to meet to discuss each child. On a Friday we generally work till 3.30 unpaid (from 12.15) but not everybody is keen to work for nothing - can't think why!!! We have plans to sharpen up our Friday meeting to make it more focussed and therefore less time consuming - that's the theory! Just interested to know what others do regarding pay.

We are about to employ a support worker on a temporary contract for a particular child. Not sure what length of contract to state, if any, as child could in theory leave at any time during the next 2 years. What do others do?
