I've just read stuff on the DFES newsletter that gives links to info about how schools and training bodies should ensure staff/students are fit for the job. To be honest I haven't been sure how preschools etc should do it since it was taken out of the OFSTED checks ages ago. There's been little or no guidance from our advisors either. I'd be very interested to hear what people in other settings do!

As you know I'm due to start my new post in July and am looking at the fee structure as it stands at the moment- currently we seem to offer very little in the way of flexibilty and I would like to look into how we can become more flexible. Do settings tend to have fee reductions or "deals" for parents who don't need full time day care during the holidays or for shift workers? Do you have any other "fee deals" that you offer (eg siblings, full time, sessional etc?) If so, would you mind giving me a rough idea of what you offer? Hope you don't mind. Thanks

Staff Qualifications

Iwent to spend the morning at my new pre-school. Whilst there I asked about the qualifications of the staff. 1 is a Level 3 and 1 is a Level 2, 2 working towards Level 2 and 2 unqualified. If on one session, there is one level 3 and 2 unqualified then surely this is not meeting the standards? Isnt it 1 level 3 and then at least half of staff with level 2? Also the acting Deputy (who has been left in charge when acting supervisor is absent) has 15 years experience but no qualifications? Again I was under the impression that this is not right either? Hi again! I just wondered if anyone could put me in touch with a recognised self appraisal style/evaluation form or publication which I would be able to use with a new setting where I am working. I need something as a starting point which means I have something to share that is not just my subjective view! Any ideas?! Thanks! Matt

The staff in my setting (to be) all have a uniform. Polo Shirt, sweatshirt and black trousers. I'm not sure how I feel about: a) uniform generally! this uniform c) how staff feel about uniform d) how parents/children feel about uniform any thoughts on the matter gratefully received! I'm also interested as to what other settings do. Do you have a uniform? If so, what is it like and do your staff like it? Do you think it makes a difference to their performance or attitude towards their setting? This seems a trivial thing to be worrying about before I've even started but I have a serious staffing problem to take on and I'm just thinking of ways I may be a…

Hi I have a work experience student coming on monday just for 1 week. I just wondered what sort of induction you did with them, do you do the same as you do for the staff and do you get them to sign anything for confidentiality etc.
