Hi all, I have only one member of staff as we are a small pre-school and she is off sick (next week will be week 5) due to a back problem which was pre-existing but has flared up again since she started working in the setting (I did voice many concerns about suitability before she was appointed but was overuled by management committee....). anyway she may come back after easter and I wondered how she will manage and how I can adapt her role so it doesn't affect her health? I can't really see how she can work at all if she has such a bad back when there is only her and me and 12 children. does anyone have any experience of this? she is unqualified and she is not really…

Hi A liitle while ago staff raised the issue of being paid for attending training courses, particularly when it would mean giving up a session's pay. We have never been paid for attending training, except for first aid, with occasional reimbursement of expenses. One colleague suggested that part of the NEG is supposed to be spent on training staff. The new committee agreed that it would be desirable to set up a training pot but at that time as money was tight, they proposed that staff took a session off in lieu of pay. We have extra staff one day. This was agreed by staff. Now they are not so sure and are even questioning whether it is legal to do this. Doe…

Hi everyone I had taken on a new member of staff who was due to start today, unfortunately she didn't turn up Now this has happened before on a few occasions and to be honest i am never really sure until they knock on the door whether anyone will turn up nowadays! But i felt differently about this person, she was so excited about the position being offered and was really looking forward to starting, i too was looking forward to her starting too! I was so disappointed, i had put a lot of work into personalising an induction for her and prepared all the staff / children / parents. I have tried phoning her today on several occasions but she has not answered…

hi we have had an incident on a school site out of school club where a child left the school grounds and was brought back in by a parent. I have to write up an incident report and wondered if anyone had a format I could use. Thanks in advance.

Hi I have been trying to contact WFRU for the last half hour but the helpline number that is printed on the bottom of the claim form (0207 887 1212) is incorrect. I found the website and a different phone number but the girl said she didn't have the direct number to payments section. I know in the past I have spoken to the payment office - perhaps it's all changed though I'm only phoning them to let them know that they have paid £274.......by BACS into Pre-school account and I haven't even put a claim in yet. Perhaps I won't tell them Yes I will .........but only if I can contact them - does anyone have the number please? Sue J

Are any of you opting to join the pathfinder scheme from April offering the 15 hours funded free nursery education? If so how are you going to offer flexible hours and how will it affect you .

Hi I manage a committee run pre-school. I have a supervisor who has no ict skills, but the committee wanted me to give her something to do. They suggested the planning. This i have done but its not working at all, the planning is all over the place, so many mistakes, resources not available, no one allocated for activities, even the leaning objectives don't match the activities. I have spoke to her again this week, telling her what she needs to do to put it right. I would n't mind but she has been using the stepping stones for over 2 years, she has been doing the planning now for 6 weeks by herself before this i gave her one week a month for 5 months. I feel like all i'm…
