hi all, you may remember i posted something a few weeks back about a member of staff on long term sick leave. anyway she decided she wouldn't be coming back which was a relief as she was very difficult! but she has decided she wants to come in and volunteer, in fact she has TOLD me she will and which day and what she will do when she is there. she came in once already on the one day a week i am regularly out for admin duties, without telling me beforehand. she then wound up the member of staff who has been covering for her telling her to complain that i am not giving her the job (i am advertising to try and get someone qualified or with more experience - basically…

How have you all been getting on in spending the Transformation Fund? we have had to account to the LEA where we have spent all of the money. I have to say getting good reliable people in has been a problem as the good ones are booked up months in advance and others are after making money out of daycare. We have managed to spend most of it but can anyone recommend anything or anyone for next years spend. I have got the Sage Early Years people in - marvellous- and about to start Yoga and gymnastics. Is there anyone out there having the same problems. I think private nurseries should share good practice. Most of it is supposed to be spent on training but staff can only tak…

Daily Risk Assessment
by Guest- 9 replies

We don't do daily risk assessments at the moment, but know it's something we need to start. Staff always do visual checks both in and out such as toy safety, gate locks etc, but nothing is recorded on paper for the dreaded evidence. How much detail are people doing? What areas? Just outside or inside too? If anyone has any suggestions or examples of forms please let me know, and help to put me on the right track.

Have I Done The Right Thing?

HI Okay, before i was made manager i used to work in the pre-school room, when i joined the pre-school room i brought about many positive changes and the room changed immensly . Parents commented and loved the changes. When i was made manager i obviously had to leave working in the room, and two parents were concerned that i was leaving pre-school (these parents are good friends), sadly the person replacing me had very little experience of working with children, and the other member in there is currently training to level three, she has experience but not loads with pre-school. I have become aware that pre-school has apparently slipped, and parent(s) are conce…

Hi all just having a break from all my studying and thought it best i did some work, for work I have a small problem.. one of my staff is expecting (shes just gone three months). I was thrilled when she told me but also worried at the same time... you see shes never really been the 'quickest' when working and now things seem to be getting worse. I understand that there are things she cannot do, and i (or the rest of my staff) wouldnt expect her to lift tables etc. She works two mornings and it's as if shes not there....shes grumpy with the children, and staff come to think of it, she doesnt really do anything, she spends most of her time sitting down…
