Am I Being Unreasonable?

In order to do the FD I applied to the Transformation Fund to cover my course fees which I got, so was thrilled with that. I then received an application for a bursary from the fund to the value of £1,500 for things like books and equipment. I then received an application for my manager to claim £3000 per college year to use for me, so I could have a day off in the week (for college) and still be paid for it. It meant that I could be paid as normal, plus my manager could get bank staff in to cover me for the one day a week with no extra charge to her or the nursery. I went to my manager and told her that basically I am finding the balance of home, children, work and c…

Room Changes

Just interested to hear how your staff take it when you decide to make some much needed/strategic room changes amongst staff??!! I already know I'm going to be crowned Big Bad Witch Take 2, if I carry out my intended plan - despite the reasoning behind it!!!!!!!

Hi I'm trying to find or put together an observation form for teaching and learning which will enable me to make judgement about our teaching with reference to the Ofsted grades. has anyone got such a document, or know where I can find one? I'm trying to complete our SEF and although I would love to develop one of our own with the staff I just haven't got the time at the moment, as I've just taken up the post of Headteacher of a mainatained nursery school and we are likely to be inspected before Easter! I would be very grateful for any suggestions. Thank you. Ann Simpkins

Transformation Fund

Has anyone applied for the transformation fund for their setting? In my authority, at least 1/2 of the funding has to go on raising quality in BTTM and the FS. Apart from attending training (which most of my team have already), do you have any ideas of how it could be spent, as I'm in the process of putting in a claim. For those of you who have already applied - what have you said you'll allocate the money on?

Telegraph Seems my fees are well below the statistics in this report ( note one example shows children 50 hrs in daycare and 15 in out of school 65 hours per week ) My fees total £3657.5 per year, but for 6.5 hrs per day, 38 weeks per year. If I calculate my hourly rate (£2.75) for 40 hour week times 50 weeks per year it still only amounts to £5,560. and I am in the South East. Childcare trust wants government to pay 20 hrs per week for 48 weeks per year. This would seriously affect my sustainability as grant ( although covers my current fee level) I doubt will rise with increasing costs of inflation. Peggy

I know that someone on here will be able to help. I have just read a letter in our local paper from someone who's friend went to enquire at a nursery for a place for their child. The friend asked about staff qualifications and police checks, and if the nursery was insured ect, she also asked to see the asbestos register. No one has ever asked this question of our group, and as we rent our premises from the Church should they be the ones who hold it (according to the letter all non domestic premises must hold one), or is it our responsibility and if so how do we get one. debbs

I'm on an interview panel later this month, looking to appoint a level two nursery assistant to work with 3-5 year olds in a full daycare nursery. Does anyone have any good interview questions for such a post that they have found to be good ones?

We have some students coming for an induction tomorrow before their brief placement. We have information to give to them about our routines, fire dril, heatlh & safety etc but haven't in the past held any basic contact details ie in an emergency or in case of any health problems. Wondered if anybody had something they would be willing to share before I start from scratch? Thanks Deb
