Pay Scales

My nursery have a scale for pay, based on what qualifications staff are. There are several bands to each section, so that you can move up the scale on a yearly basis. The first manager put staff onto the scale at a point that she thought was suitable. The following acting manager put all staff at the bottom of the band that was relevant to their qualification - unless they came from a job that paid higher - and then she would match that. The results are that there is a highly experienced member of staff who has the same qualification as another, on a significant amount of money less. This all seems very anti equal opportunities, and there is so system at al…

Im a bit confused at how to go about increasing the fees this is our first fee increase I feel I have to justify myself? Does anyone have a letter they send to parents that I can have a look at please? I havent a clue how to even work out how much to increase it by, any advice? I know I need to take into account things such as minimum wage increase and the NEG we currently get £8.13 for a 2.5 hour session. We have 2 x 5hr sessions a day or a full day. Does anyone have a session purely for the funded children without a top up? I would only be able to do this for afternoons? Can anyone help please?

Help Marketing Ourselves

Hi Would anyone be willing to give advice/share ideas of the best way to market a private day nursery? I work for a nursery which opened in July. The couple who own it are lovely - they REALLY care, have a lovely ethos, believe in learning through play, especially outdoors (I've been employed as Outdoor Learning Co-ordinator as a sign of their committment to outdoor exploration). Meals are home cooked organic every day, We hve a wonderful secure garden with views over farmland and also access to 4 acres of woodland/orchard/lawn (which our early years advisors have taken photos of). Trouble is, in setting up we now do not have any money left for advertising. …

HI we are interviewing at present, we found a great candidate, fab interview, good work based interview. I offered this person a job today and they accepted, Only they told me that two years ago they were cautioned for theft (only this person denied actually stealing what they were accused of stealing). This caution will obviously show up on this persons CRB, and im glad they told me about it. Now i am still happy to employ this person, if im allowed to do so... where do we as managers stand on employing someone with a caution. Obviosuly if the caution was for violence or offenses against children then i wouldn't employ this person, but since its theft i think …
