Hi In Nov/Dec Under 5's Magazine, there is reference to 'a special report in Nursery World (12 October, 2006) which details how private providers can continue to offer free sessions without facing bankrupty by restructuring their fees'. Has anybody seen this article? Would be interested to see what it says.

Hi, Can you guys give me an idea of the amount of "non-session" time that a pre-school manager would get (small setting of max 16 children, four sessions/week, 2 1/2 hours per session, run by a committee)? Also, is it usually for staff to get overtime and if so what for, how is it authorised and how much per month?

We are shortly to open our daycare unit and I would like some experience or advice on how do we planand provide for young 3 year olds who will be joining throughout the year ( as they attend daycare) to share the provision with children in a Foundation Stage unit. This is a Children's Centre, so it is a new situation. The young 3's will have a key worker, but with ongoing outdoor provision, how does one worker cope considering the ratio's of 1-8 a the daycare ratios? My concerns are for the development and provision of the young 3's and the issues of the older 5's in the same unit. Perhaps their is someone in this situation? I would appreciaste your words of…

Home Visits

I am currently developing our 'settle-ins' for new children. How many of you make Home Visits before a child starts? What are the implications of this, and do you have a Policy, e.g. is it just one person who visits - if so, what is your lone working policy? What happens during the visit? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Staggered Drop-off/collection Times
by Guest- 2 replies

Do any of you belong to nurseries who have a staggered drop-off/collection time between sessions? My nursery have always had 1 o'clock as the collection and drop-off time for children who are not staying all day. How wonderful it would be to have a short gap between the 2, to spend quality time with parents, and to set-up activities, etc. Has anyone ever been in a nursery who have introduced the staggered times? I can see that this would be fine for new parents, but what about the ones who have always brought or collected their child at that time?
