Staff working two settings?

Hi everyone, We've had a request from our supervisor to work at another setting during school holidays - our policy says they need to seek written approval and if its a conflict it may be refused. Does anyone have experience with this? How do you decide if it is a conflict? Currently we do not allow staff to babysit for any of our parents in their free time as our feeling is if something happens during that time it may reflect badly on us, being the primary employer - is this a similar scenario?

Hi All, Just wondered if anyone had a question format they had used to ask parents about their intentions when the 30 hours comes in? Feel like I need to start to get a grip on what our current ones might be wanting and thought that someone might have some ideas! Thanks! x

Hi I know some people having to talking about the date their setting needs to enrol but have anyone looked at what they are going to enrol in yet. I spoke to one financial advisor who thought the the government NEST would be best for us as we are small (8 employees). It looks pretty easy to do. Has anyone had any other advice.

I'm now taking on the role of senco but have been thrown in the deep end as usual. I've been on one course and an autism course but it all seems quite basic and i didn't really get any thing new from it. I was wondering if we could share ideas and give advice as I always find that I learn most from other people's experiences who actually work with children.

I am booked onto the DSL later in the month but am confused whether I need to complete a basic safeguarding course or level 2 or level 3? Any ideas, what have others done?

Our deputy has recently left and as I am the longest serving member of staff at present and only competent level 3 I have been made deputy without much choice to be honest. I've only been working in child care for 3 years which is the same number of years as I've better working at the nursery. I still feel that I'm continually learning In this job. It doesn't help that the previous deputy was fantastic at her job and also was the senco so used to do everything although I would sometimes be included in the process of things im not always sure of the whole process because I never got involved from start to finish. The worse thing I find about being left in charge is that …

Staff support and mentoring

Has anyone got a questionnaire or grid that they use with staff to identify any support or mentoring they need? Mine are all quite good about accessing training courses but we have flagged that maybe some people would benefit from more informal support from within the team, and I'm struggling with how I get them to identify/acknowledge this. If anyone has something they are happy to share I would be grateful. TIA

Or rather your thoughts on an issue we have. We had a little boy start with us in Sept. He does all day Monday (7 hours) and Tues, Weds afternoons (3.5 hours) He's just 3 (beg Sept) and is still in nappies. Lovely little boy, developmentally where he should be, no concerns at all. The first couple of weeks he was with us he didn't do the full day on the Monday and didn't require a nappy change. the first full day he did, his KP changed his nappy lunchtime and had no problem. The following Monday week she was off sick and it was pretty obvious by 11 am that he had a dirty nappy. Some one (a very familiar member of staff) took him to change his nappy and he went c…

Just wanted to ask when other settings took their 14th unfunded week? Do you follow the 13 weeks schools take or change this as well?
