by Guest- 13 replies

Can i ask any managers who are supernumery Do you still get to do activities with the children? Do you miss all the day to day running of a room? Do you miss planning activities and the sheer joy of watching the children play and learn? Do you miss those wonderful spontaneous moments that happen every day? Or do you still get to do these? My boss is taking a back seat and has asked me to take over but this means i cant be room based any more. I simply love everything about the role i currently have. I love planning for the childrens learning and play. I love all the spontaneuos moments. I just love my job. This is a great opportunity, but im not sure if …

Outdoor Play Area
by Guest- 2 replies

We are a sessional preschool operating from a church hall. I'm really excited as today our new fencing has been erected which will allow us to have freeflow outdoor play. (Our old play area was a bit further away and as such not easy to access unless everyone went outside at the same time). Please can you let me know how you manage your freeflow play... staffing, resources, risk assessments, is access for all the session or only part, can all children access it at the same time etc etc. I am really keen to make this as rich a resource as possible given the constraints that we have, namely, the outdoor area is at the front of the church so any resources will need to be…

I have recently been approached by a parent who is considering deferring her child's entry into Reception. The child has a December birthday and would therefore usually enter reception the following September in our county. I have had no experience of deferred entry but feel it may be appropriate for this child........ What have your experiencs been? I would like to hear both positives and negatives before I get back to the parent! Thanks

Personal Record Form
by Guest- 2 replies

A few months ago I printed off 2 sheets that constituted a Child's Personal Record. The first sheet had Family name etc at the top, down to 'people authorised to collect the child:... at the bottom. The second one was about Medical Details, Immunisations & Special Needs. I really like the layout and wanted to adapt it slightly to use instead of out exisiting one, as the layout is so much clearer - but I can't find it on the site! Foolishly I had just run a copy off, not saved it. CAn anyone find it? I'd be extremely grateful!

Plans To Leave My Nursery
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi I would really welcome some advice please. I have finally decided that it is the right time to 'retire' from my nursery school. I have owned and run it for many years. I had planned that I would sell it but the implications of NEG as they affect private nurseries have now made that very difficult. My nursery is thriving at the moment and making an income but the future is not clear especially as my county is a pathfinder i.e. could be instigating the new NEG from April. As I cannot sell, I would like to appoint a manager from to take over from me from next September. I have a large staff and could appoint internally. So, how do I go about this to ensure a smoot…

Graduate- Job Description
by Guest- 4 replies
- 1.2k views
I have been asked to attend a meeting with my EYDCP in relation to the transformation fund and need to take with me a job description for the graduate I hope to recruit to the setting. Can anyone help if they have recruited theirs to the settings. Apart from eventually being able to lead the curriculum after following the EYP pathways that are coming along what have you said their role is in the hierarcy of your settings? Are they in the management structure or at senior nursery nurse level. I am tempted to delete the deputy manger post and create a new Early Years Foundation Practioner but wonder will this work in the absence of the manager and will ofsted approve it a…

How Long To Turn A Nursery Around?
by Guest- 6 replies

Needing some kind of reassurance!! How long does it take to turn a nursery around, when there has been nearly 2 years of bad practice? I see that I need to undo a lot of things and find a way to start again. I know it's not an overnight job, but it's jolly frustrating and draining in the meantime - when I know where I want it to be.
