Visiting other settings-Does this happen.? Where we are there is such competition between Nurserys in our meetings that our EYDCP hold, nursery staff sit huddled in the little circles and everyone seems to glare at each other. I seem to be the only one who talks to anyone. At our meeting today I invited a Nursery to come and have a look around ours- if looks could kill-the looks i got where unbelievable- as though someone wanted to shout out you cant do that! Why doesnt this happen.? I love seeing other Nurseries its nice to get new ideas, opnions and have some other manager to moan with!!!! Is it just us down here in the sunny south or does this happen every…

Marketing

Like others I have lost over 50% of my register as they all move on to 'big school'. Low birth rates and a total lack of good marketing have left me with a very low intake, so; HELP, I need some good, not too costly ( if not totaly free) ideas on how to market / advertise my preschool. What I've done so far. I am putting a story to the media about our recent Ofsted. I have leaflets in local health centre's I gave out 170 leaflets in our local primary school for holiday club provision and got no response at all Word of mouth. As you can see, not much activity on the promoting my service front. I need inspiration, please. Peggy

Hi Could you advise me please on whether you charge parents a late payment charge- when they pay their bill late? I have so many parents who pay late its costing me quite a bit in bank charges etc I am still finding my feet in running the Nursery I invoice parents they pay either cash or chq but I understand from parents whose children have come from other nurseries that they paid direct into the Nurserys bank account- the same amount each month? I perume they are talking about a standing order/direct debit? If you do it this way how do you work out what they should pay each month - my parents seem to be forever changing sessions! or do you still work out invoi…

Was just wondering how everyone was getting on with their transformation fund money(if in a private daycare setting) I'm finding it all quite complex Need to process applications as soon as possible it seems as though Bristol have been late in organising as we only had our meeting in the middle of July Really interested to hear what eligible settings are doing about applying and how they went about completing the application forms.

Query Re: Rent

Hi all, I would like to ask what level your rent is set at if you run a setting from a community hall such as Scouts, Community centre, church etc. The reason I ask is that I rent from a scout group, 2 years ago the treasurer said that he would have to increase my rent by 10%. I said that such a big rise was unaffordable, so he said he would raise it 5% each year over the next 2 yrs, which brings us to now. anyway, he has now said that he is raising my rent 5% every year. ( this was not what we initially agreed). I currently pay £5.30 per hour which = £37.12 per day, which = £7238.40 per year ( 39 wk yr, 10 sessions per week). This is for a shared venue where fu…

The nursery is expected to take approx 120 children aged 3months - 5years. Can anyone give me a realistic salaray expectation of the following roles:- Nursery nurse (babies) Nursery nurse (toddlers) Nursery assistant (babies / toddlers) Classroom Assistants - pre school Cook I have an idea of the expected salaray but am yet to find anyone who will help me to understand if I am on the right lines. I do not have an issue with paying staff so am not…

HI what's in your policies, i think ours are all up to date but just wanted to see what others had in theirs as well. also child protection... we have very little on this... we have a child protection policy, a child protection officer (myself i believe???? ~ apparently the manager has to do it????) and that's about it.... do you have a dedicated folder to child protection?, if so what does it contain? What child protection info do you make available to staff in general, is it enough for them to just read the policy? Dawn
