We dont always have the same people at Nursery til 6 every night can you tell me how you work out cleaning duties so that its fair and do you keep a rota/record. I used to have rotas for everything! I stopped them as i was hoping that the staff would start sorting out tasks between themselves - wrong- its not happening! What I am finding at the mo is the cleaning isnt being done properly and like all the other jobs in the Nursery one person thinks someone else is doing it or should i say everyones blaming each other. By going back to a rota I know who isnt doing it properly Does anyone have a copy of a cleaning rota I can look at Mine seems endless - I persona…

Ratios Again

hi, just a quick question i understand all the ratio debate, i would like your views on having too many staff for the amounts of children my setting wants to have 4 staff working with an average of 12 children (average 4 under 3 and 8 over 3) so would only really need 2 staff. because they are going to employe a new staff and want to be able to give her sessions, and current staff wont drop sessions for a new staff to come in ( which i totally agree with) i always though that it was more detrimental to child development for their to be this higher amount of adults to children. we are currently working on 4 staff with 24 children, so i dont understand …

Future Occupancy

How do people do their Future Occupancy? I've inherited an ancient computer system that doesn't put children from the waiting list onto the Future Projections. I am happy to set up my own spreadsheet or use good old fashioned pencil and paper. I just wanted to know what works best, from those of you who have tried and tested it? Thanks

Hello, Just wondering if any of you have the luxury of having a person solely doing administation for your settings. If you have, what is their job description? and title? I have a basic idea, but wanted to know if I have missed anything. Please could you let me know of your ideas. Many thanks kizzy xx

I previously posted asking for advice on interviewing for a new deputy supervisor. We found a lovely lady who was very experienced in pre-school BUT rang up a week after she accepted the job to say her pre-school where she was covering for maternity leave has asked her to stay. So we are again looking for a deputy supervisor. The advert cost £123 this time Parents are panicking that we haven't found one and are talking about moving pre-schools. The current deputy is not helping this matter Anyway a lady we know well (her 2 boys came to us) is currently half way through her NVQ 3. A teacher at a local school said that they had a deputy who was training for level 3 a…

All The Good Things!
by Guest- 12 replies

As a manager, how often do you sit back and think of all the good things that you've achieved recently? I don't know if I'm hard on myself, but I see a list of things that I would like to change or improve, and an ever increasing To Do list of managerial tasks. The other day I sat back and thought of all the good things I've achieved in just 2 months as manager, and I felt quite positive (for a while!!). Shelley

Staff Changes
by Guest- 8 replies

How often do you move staff so that they are based in a different room? How well does this go down? In my nursery the staff are deployed really badly. Room decisions have not been made depending on skills, experiences and strengths, but instead they've been made on "who wants to where?". Therefore, all the staff are based in the room of their choice, and staff strengths are being wasted, and some rooms are suffering badly because of it. I've pretty much made up my mind as to what changes to make, but know that I'm going to have some unhappy team members for a while. Any advice?

Task List
by Guest- 10 replies

I went on an excellent management course last week, with managers from across the care sector, including residential care managers, etc. One lady said that if staff had to compile a task-list, whereabouts would interacting with the children be on it? Staff are often so wrapped up in cleaning, tidying-up, getting snacks prepared, etc, that they forget about the important stuff. I fully understand that these are all vital duties, but really want staff to see that sometimes things can wait; or that it doesn't take 2 staff members to clean a table whilst the children are running riot! Went back to work all positive today after my course, and within the fir…
